Book Review: Cole Family Christmas
One of my favorites lessons to teach with my 8th grade Lanuage Arts students is a unit on oral history when the have the opportunity to interview famly members, capturing both family hetitage and tradition. After reading Cole Family Christmas for the first time, I was reminded of the value of this unit as the book’s orgins are deeply routed the oral history of one family’s unique Christmas experience. “Cole Family Christmas is a delightful story about a coal-mining family of eleven in the Appalachian Mountains who learns that love and togetherness far surpass material things” written by Hazel Cole Kendle and her gradedaughter-in-law Jennifer Liu Bryan. Reading it aloud with your children or grandchild, the story of one Cole Family Christmas will become a family tradition in itself.
