Kid-Proof Samsung Rugby Smart Smartphone {Giveaway}

While I can’t speak as a hardcore techie but instead as someone who loves the new “thing” in electronics, I was blown away by the all new Samsung Rugby Smart from AT&T. My first impression out of the box was that it looked sleek yet rugged all at once. Turning it on, I was impressed by the large, touchscreen display and it’s “Google” friendliness. I’m a Google girl who hasn’t experimented with Android so using the Rugby Smart over the last few weeks was actually quite fun.

The AT&T Rugby Smart stand-out features, however, are what I’m most excited to share with fellow parents. After loosing a smartphone to the toliet (and another to the washer that had nothing to do with my children), the idea of a phone withstanding being sumberged in 1m of water for 30 minutes works for me. Here’s a bit more about the unfortnate innocent that took the life of my smartphone:

Additional Samsung Rugby Smart feautures from the AT&T website:

The Samsung Rugby® Smart is a rugged, dustproof device designed to handle the elements with water resistance (submergible up to 1m for 30 minutes) and built to mil-std 810f  military spec standards**.The Android 2.3 smartphone features a 3.7-inch WVGA Super AMOLED touchscreen display and a 5MP camera with HD video recording. It also supports 4G service, Wi-Fi®, corporate email and the full line of media including location, music and social networking services. From the work site to the camp site and beyond, Rugby Smart fulfills all your smartphone needs with the physical strength to handle whatever life throws at it.

This roughly transltes to an Android phone that withstands kids, supports 4G and WiFi and has a nice-looking touchscreen able to entertain the children as well mom and dad’s Facebook updates. It took all of five minutes to set up with some cool features such as weather updates and a new screen for different “categories” of apps such as kids or social media. Released March 4th, you can find it at AT&T retail stores and online for $99 with a 2-year contract.

After using for a few weeks, I would absolutely recommend the phone to anyone whose small children handle their phones. While I’d love to offer both pros and cons, I’ve found no negatives thus far with the Rugby Smart. As a loyal AT&T customer since 2005, I’m thrilled to have partnered with them to bring Cool Baby Kid readers this smart pick. And in case I happen to have their attention, I’d like to use this opportunity to ask if more bars may be possible in NEPA on Rt. 307 by Lake Scranton? Other that that, I love AT&T and think their customer service rocks (especially in the Dickson City, PA store).

iPad + Kids = Potential Disaster *iGuy Giveaway*

For us, “potential” was a reality when our iPad was accidentally dropped on the floor by our son.  The screen smashed as did our desire to let them use the expensive device. With so many cool and educational iPad apps, the answer to our dilemma hinged on a majorly protective iPad cover–one designed specifically for kids. However, most kids’ covers are designed for iPad 2, but luckily iGuy came into our lives one sunny day in March with the ability to protect all iPads. He arrived on our doorstep and become the new favorite guy in our house almost instantly. Mom and dad were thrilled with the foam protection, and the kids have a blast standing him up to play games and shaking his hands.

Here’s a typical conversation from one sibling to another: “Can I have iGuy please?” And the response, “Sure, here you go!” OK, OK…maybe it’s more like, “I WANT iGUY!” with the response, “No, I’m using him.” We think of  iGuy by Speck Products  an opporunity to teach lessons in sharing.

Admittedly it’s not an easy lesson as Tmple Run is hard for me to give up.

Tiny Love Soothe ‘n Groove Musical Mobile

Gone are the days of the dainty, wind up mobiles. The 21st Century mobile is here–Tiny Love Soothe ‘n Groove Mobile.  This colorful mobile is sure to keep your baby engaged with eighteen different musical selections broken down into six categories.  One of the categories is the “white noise” feature that keeps your newborn feeling safe and familiar.  It also has two speakers that you can adjust the volume according to your liking.  The best part is that the mobile plays for 40 minutes…yes, 40 minutes!  You can also choose to play happy tunes for your child’s enjoyment or more relaxing tunes for helping baby calm helself to sleep.  The variety of music keeps my three  month old amused and engaged in her crib while mommy is cleaning th bedrooms and getting ready for the day.  The Tiny Love Soothe ‘n Groove mobile also features a calming light as well as an overhead light.  When the music is playing the buttons also light up which stimulates my daughter.

When she has outgrown this unique mobile, she can enjoy pushing the toddler friendly buttons which will enhance her fine motor skills.  Once she can walk, she can carry around the music box for more months of enjoyment. The detachable mobile can be stored away for future use while my daughter can still enjoy the musical tunes and continue to stimulate her senses.  This product grows with your child from birth up until she is walking around the house. It’s very easy to put together and take apart when the time comes.   Your child will surely enjoy the Tiny Love Soothe ‘n Groove Mobile, and I highly recommend.

May I Offer You a Spot of Tea? *Giveaway*

Tea Variety K-Cup® Sampler

I am a tea drinker. Morning…afternoon… sometimes even after dinner if I’m still hungry and want a snack alternative. So when this month’s shipment of K-Cup portion packs arrived, I was so excited to branch out a bit. Typiclly my tea drinking includes Celestial Seasonings Chai Tea and Bigelow English Breakfast Tea. When I can afford the extra calories Cafe Escapes Chai Tea Latte is my tea of choice. Being a K-Cup Ambassador has been interesting as I learn more about the companies I love such as family-owned Bigelow which began in a kitchen in 1945. To think Celestial Seasonings blended all-natural teas from herbs picked in the fields and forests of the Rocky Mountains in 1969 and more than 40 years later found it’s way into my kitchen each morning.

Though my collegues tease me about a 3rd cup every afternoon, I love post-lunch tea and was surprised to learn that the first afternoon tea was served at 4:00 pm when Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford, grew tired of the “sinking feeling” between meals. I couldn’t wait to experience afternoon tea in England and love to re-create it just about every afternoon here in Pennsylvania.

If you’re a tea drinker and Keurig fan like myself, test your tea knowledge by answer the question below to enter to win a fun tea-themed prize pack.

Cool Giveaway:

Enter to win two mugs and two boxes of tea in K-Cup® packs by answering the following question correctly and making sure to leave an extra comment for each of the additional (optinal) entries. Tea originated in China and was brought to England in the 1500s, 1600s, 1700s or 1800s? Extra entry tasks:

New Pampers Soft Care Wipes *Win Year’s Supply*

Although my babies are now 3 and 5, we continue to use Pampers wipes daily. Stored in a kitchen cabinet, each of the kids’ rooms, both cars and in my purse, they come in handy to clean up messy counters, hands, faces…you name it, we use Pampers wipes to clean it. The new Soft Care wipes are adorable and more easily portable. The new stylish design negates the need for fancy wipe containers and shove very nicely into a diaper bag, or in my case, a “transition bag” as I like to call it.

Check out the new packaging for yourself by entering to win an exciting giveaway. One lucky reader will receive a year’s supply of Pampers Soft Care wipes…because Pampers rocks!
