Holiday Bows…Check. *Pink Bowtique Giveaway*

Ruffles, Ribbons & Roses Bow

We recently had an all-out debate at my workplace regarding the merits of “holiday outfits.” Specifically, the men (boys) in the group thought the idea of separate outfits for Christmas Eve and Christmas absurd. As a mom of two and author of this cool picks blog since 2007, I heartily disagree. Christmas outfits, PJs and even hair accessories mark the beginning of the holiday season. (For the record, holiday outfits were purchased this year on Zulily and Nonnie just ordered Christmas PJs on Gymboree.com this week.)

When it comes to hair accessories, I don’t mess around heading straight to Pink Bowtique. This year I grabbed the black and red Ruffles, Ribbons and Roses bow (pictured) for Christmas Eve and Lavish Red & Black Girls Hair Bow for Christmas Day. Each is customizable allowing you to choose alligator clip or barrette as well as size (small, medium, large.) Some bows offer the capability to choose colors such as the Made to Match Marabou Girls Hair Bow. Check out the entire holiday bow collection or the Holiday Baby and Girls hats. Unfortunately I already ordered my daughter’s outfits or I may have snapped up a Holiday Tutu as well.

Whether you agree with the guys that  holiday outfits are extravagant or with the cool kids that this special time of year necessitates special duds for the kids, hair accessories for mini-divas are a must and Pink Bowtique a top pick.

New Vera Bradley Perfect for Mother’s Day

New! Shopper Tote

Retail Price: $8

Sophie Bags in Four All New Colors

Retail Price: $42

Quick Draw Bag in Watercolor

Retail Price: $68

Vera Bradley released all new colors and styles, and I am absolutely in love with the Sophie Watercolor bag. The perfect size for a quick outing, it has plenty of pockets (six in all) and at a retail price of just $42 also makes a great gift for a friend. Speaking of gifts, with Mother’s Day just around the corner, there’s no need to search high and low for the perfect present. Just visit Vera Bradley’s What’s New or Gift Ideas and you’re good to go. The Gift Ideas link allows you to search by price starting at gifts under $30 such as the Hard Sunglass Case ($22) perfect for the upcoming season. Or if you’re like me, Mother’s Day is also a good time to offer hints to hubby in the form of an email “Check out this Vera Bradley Laptop Case! Wouldn’t that be a great gift for Mother’s Day?”  In my experience more subtle hints do not translate to the gift I was hinting for hence the rather explicit “hint” suggestion.

And if you’re one of those Vera diehards, like my friend Debby, and must have the newest items, check out the Rolling Luggage in Boysenberry and prepare to be awed. Not quite sure what the Vera hubbub is all about? Read a previous post about how I become a convert.

lizzie, izzie + james: a new *top pick* for hair accessories

Visit lizzie izzie + james you can just tell their assortment of hair accessories, headbands and even crowns will be a cut above the rest. A clean, crisp website reveals hair clips for every occasion. Fruits and such is my favorite category with ice cream, cupcake and lollipop designs, although the Alphabet Soup custom hair clips which we checked out is the perfect way to personalize a little girl’s style. Speaking of Alphabet Soup, the headbands of the same name, such as “A” pictured here will never go out of style. Also worth noting, an an excellent choice on our part if I say so myself…Waveny Blossoms flower headbands which scream “girly girl!”

In addition to the well-designed website and perfectly adorable accessories for kids and Kids Crowns, we also love $3 flat shipping, no-hassle returns and shipping within one day of your order. Mompreneur Sherryl Mascarinas should be congratulated on successfully launching lizzie, izzie + james which is spot on in every way which is why we’re making them a Cool Baby Kid *Top Pick*.

Pink Bowtique Girls Hair Bows and Headbands

It’s no secret Cool Baby Kid partner Pink Bowtique is our source for boutique hair bows but they also have other girlie accessories too. We’re into headbands lately and wanted to share some of their selections. We clip the flowers to hard headbands and occasionally use the soft ones too. Even though these are geared for baby older girls can use them as well. Halloween Baby Headbands (Boo! pictured) and Holiday Baby Girl Headbands like adorable Candy Cane Kisses are some of our favorites plus Flower Baby Headbands for baby and toddler too.

Some other non-bow accessories worth noting are their tutus and matching tutus which are very reasonable priced as well as the cutest baby girl gifts you’ve ever seen! Need something more custom? Made to match allows you to choose ribbon, flower color and more. Also be sure to check out Pink Bowtique’s clearance section for flowers and bows on sale at incredibly low prices.

Jizo is not your ordinary jewelry line.  It’s creator, Valerie S. Johns, harnessed Jizo’s long history as an enlightened Buddist teacher revered as the protector of children and travelers.  Beginning with a book and then paintings of Jizo and Chibi, the Japanese word for “little one,” eventually a beautiful line of gold and silver jewelry pieces featuring both was created.  A sampling of our favorites are featured above, but there are other pieces we like including earrings, pendants, charm bracelets as well.  Dainty and symbolic, Jizo makes a great special occasion gift for a loved one.

SnuggRugg Baby Blanket

SnuggBugg Bottle Wrap

When two Australian ladies living in San Francisco realized they both carried a reusable coffee sleeve an idea was born; they eventually created an environmentally friendly alternative, the SnuggMugg, a fashionable, reusable coffee sleeve made of faux sheepskin that can even be customized for an extra fee.  At just $10, the original SnuggMugg and its bottle wrap counterpart, the SnuggBugg, both make unique gifts.  Give the Mugg to a coffee (or tea) drinking new mom and the Bugg to her bitty baby as matching gifts!  We also checked out the SnuggRugg in the “Doll” pattern and love how breathable it is with soft multi-fabric ribbons for baby to chew and pull on.  We’re working with SnuggStuff on a special Double Duty Diva version of the SnuggMugg for BlogHer 2010 and are so excited to have found this cool company!

The SippiGrip: No More Dirty Cups {Giveaway & Coupon}

My daughter just started this fun game of tossing things like her bottles…her toys….her food. She throws them, I pick them up and clean them and give whatever it was back to her so that we can start it all over again. The Sippigrip can’t help much with food but it’s been amazing when she’s in her highchair or stroller and decides to start throwing everything else I give her. The concept is so simple that I kick myself for not coming up with the idea myself. The Sippigrip is adjustable so that I can make it shorter when my daughter is in her stroller and longer when she’s up a bit higher. It also has a grip on the inside that really holds whatever object you’re using it for and it’s totally machine washable.

Things are hectic enough around our house without having to constantly pick up and clean her things. This is one of those products that after you use it you want to tell all your friends with kids about it and give them as gifts at showers because anything that makes things easier is definitely worth sharing with other moms. Find the Sippigrip and other unique baby gifts at Starting Out Small, an online boutique with a product line including Mary Jane socks, stylish wipe off bibs and more.

Editor’s Note:
These are lifesavers for both babies and toddlers and perfect for the highchair, stroller or when eating out. A must for sippy cups, bottles and toys too.
