Buying Prescription Glasses Just Got Soooo Much Easier

My husband has been driving around without his glasses for the past year because he just hasn’t had the time to replace them. Let’s be honest …he’s been lazy; but who can blame him? With an infant we definitely don’t have as much time as we used to and so he deiced to try ordering eyeglasses online. He called his eye doctor and asked for his prescription and went to Just Eyewear’s website. They has so many different kinds of affordable glasses. I was skeptical at first since I thought they might not be nice or that the prescription wouldn’t be right but I shouldn’t have worried. Their website is so helpful.

Check out their guide to buying prescription glasses. They even include a link on how to find your pupillary distance (PD). I had no idea what this was and my husband’s doctor didn’t give him this measurement so we did it ourselves and it worked out fine. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a nice, yet inexpensive pair of glasses and doesn’t want to leave their couch to do so. I don’t know about you but I know if I can get away with one less errand I’m thrilled!

Marshmallow Skull & Crossbone Shooter: Review & Giveaway

There’s a new sheriff in town and he’s armed…

The Marshmallow Skull & Cross-bone Shooter, a toy gun which shoot marshmallows, holds 25 Mini Marshmallows is easy to operate and has surprising power. I shot several Mini Marshmallows over 30 feet. No jams by this reviewer, only a barrage of flying marshmallow projectiles. My co-workers were never so scared. As flying objects go, Mini Marshmallows are not a bad choice, they don’t hurt and are easy to pickup. And if you loose them, so what, you can rearm at your local grocery store. Try that with those Nerf toys. The gun is great for army battles with your toy soldiers. Just place your toy soldiers in formation and take turns mowing them down. The last one with a standing toy soldier is the winner. It also works surprisingly well to remove you house feline if it just won’t leave you alone.

We do not advocate shooting your family animal nor does my husband shoot our cat with the Marshmallow gun…that I am aware of.

Putumayo Kids Music: Our Daily Trip Around the World

As I head back to school this week to teach Language Arts to 8th graders, I’m excited to re-connect with Putumayo Kids, a Cool Baby Kid all-time favorite. While their new CD, Picnic Playground, is a perfect companion to daily dance parties with our 1.5 and 3 year old children, the Putumayo Kids teacher tools remind me of resources I can incorporate into the classroom as well. According to their site, “Putumayo Kids produces music that entertains, educates and inspires cultural curiosity,” and I could not agree more. Since discovering Putumayo Kids, it has become an almost daily part of our lives since we love to dance! Picnic Playground doesn’t disappoint. Taking us around the world, from the USA to Europe and beyond, songs like our favorites Ice Cream by Asheba (Trinidad) and Pomodoro by Bomba (Australia) offers upbeat tunes for dancing while expanding our cultural horizons at the same time.

Originally intended as designated pool music for the kids, we we ended up listening to Caribbean Playground, a CD celebrating Caribbean culture, at our “adult” pool parties too beacuse of its unique ability to appeal simultaneously to kids and parents alike. One of the only companies to be listed as a “What We Love Right Now” in addition to being a CBK *Top Pick* as well as an “Editor’s Top 10 Favorites.” Do we love Putumayo Kids? You bet.

Smart Tip: For a fun island sound listen to Jamaica Farewell (Jamaica) by Desmond Dekke fun island sound and Tambou Dan Tche Nou (Martinique)by Kali for a fast, hip shaking dance tune. Preview Putumayo Kids children’s music on their website.
Cool Giveaway: Enter to win one of two copies of Putumayo Kid’s Picnic Playground by visiting their site and commenting back here after previewing any song from the Picnic Playground CD. Click here to read the contest rules and find out how to increase your chances of winning. Ends 9/15/09.

Inner Kid Intact? Cool Tees by Andy Monsters {Coupon}

Have you heard the buzz about Andy Monsters? I was just introduced and love them for three MONSTER-SIZED reasons!

1. Cute Characters: There are currently 10 cute, monster characters. My favorite is Skelly the Skeleton, but there are also adorable versions of a mummy, Frankenstein, Dracula, a werewolf, Loch Ness, a goblin, Big Foot, the Grim Reaper and a blue dragon.

2. Apparel: These cute characters adorn both men and women tees. The women tees are “girl-sized”, so expect them to be form fitting. There are currently 10 designs/colors. Some have individual characters adorning them. For example, I received the Classic Skelly on a black, medium, girls tee to try. But, I also loved Surf’s Up with Grimmy the Grim Reaper.

3. Social Impact: When shopping on Andy Monsters, there are two tees that you can purchase that give 100% of proceeds to a charity – depending on the tee. One is the
Wishing Well Tee, which donates 100% of proceeds to building wells in foreign countries (The Water Project). The other tee is Smile which donates 100% of proceeds to SmileTrain to raise money to perform surgeries for children born with cleft palates.

Being Dad DVD: How the Guys Get Ready for Baby

When I found out I was pregnant the first thing I did, after telling my husband and family, was run to the bookstore and get every book I could find on pregnancy. I had the general book, the week by week book and even a few baby name books. I read them cover to cover and then went and got more. I also picked up a few books for dad along the way. I don’t think the spine was ever even cracked on them. Like most guys, he wanted to be involved but reading a book on pregnancy isn’t his thing. He preferred that I read him the important tidbits while he hit pause on the sports channel. The DVD “Being Dad: A Sneak Peek into Pregnancy From a Guy’s Point of View” was perfect. Not only was the material presented in a way that kept my husband’s attention, but I think that having that information come from other guys and not just his increasingly neurotic pregnant wife would have spoken to him more. The follow-up DVD, “Being Dad 2: Inspiration & Information For New Dads,” picks right up with bring the baby home. Trust me if you have a partner who is anything like mine skip the books. These DVDs will be invaluable during your pregnancy and then when you bring your baby home.

Guide to Pirate Parenting: How to Raise Your Kid a Pirate

My husband reads exactly one thing, Golf Digest, unless you count “do it yourself” handbooks. The English teacher in me has tried repeatedly to pique his interest in reading to no avail. So when I received Guide to Pirate Parenting by Tim Bete, this time I didn’t give him a choice. I knew he would get a kick out of chapters like “How to Convert Your Minivan Into a Pirate Schooner.” Ten minutes later, he was still reading! Guide to Pirate Parenting is one of the funniest books I’ve come across and hands down the best parenting guide anywhere for dads. Here are some highlights:

“If you ask a father ‘Would ye like to raise yer wee children as pirates?’ you’ll get an immediate, enthusiastic ‘Aye, Aye!’ Ask a mother the same question and you’ll get a puzzled, questioning glare…Women have an X chromosome instead of a Y chromosome. Studies show that the primary purpose of the X chromosome is to cross out-and negate- ideas created by beings that posses the Y chromosome.” -Except from the introduction

“If your baby doesn’t like to take baths, try making bath time fun! Build a small plank that your baby can use to push dolls into the tub. Your baby will laugh with glee as each doll meets its doom.” -Excerpt from “Baby Pirates-Mapping Out Your Child’s Future

Cap’n Billy, co-author of Guide to Pirate Parenting, answers common parenting questions such as, ” My grandmother’s name is ‘Elise’ and she wants us to name our new pirate after he. But I don’t think ‘Elise’ is a good pirate name. Am I right?” And, “I’m worried about my child’s school-lunch program. Is seems the principal doesn’t appreciate it when my pirate steals his classmates’ lunches. What should I do?”

To find the hilarious answers to these and other questions, pick up a copy of A Guide to Pirate Parenting, my new favorite new dad gift. You won’t be sorry.

Cool Tip: Purchase Pirate Parenting directly from the website and receive a signed copy which is a idea for new parents, especially dads of potential pirates.
