Splish Splash! by Gamewright: Fun for the Whole Family *Giveaway*

Some of my favorite activities with the kids include movie night, dance parties and playing games. Like Disney World, each of these is fun for both adults and kids making our time together more enjoyable. Don’t get me wrong, I can last a good fifteen minutes playing “kitchen,” but after the tenth “I would like cupcakes for dessert” my mind begins to wander.

I was first introduced to Gamewright at Toy Fair and impressed with their unique offerings of games and puzzles, reviewed Take the Cake, a game my daughter and I especially like as big cupcake fans. This time we tried out Splish Splash! which easily proved to be another hit. My three year old son loves to throw rocks into bodies of water, so when I realized the object of the game was to drop the pebble into the pond and match shapes which splash out to your game card, I immediately knew it was be up his alley. A learning opportunity to count, identify and match colors, and learn taking turns, I highly recommend Splish Splash! which is appropriate for ages 4 and up. Gamewright offers fun for every age category including 3 and up, 6 and up, 8 and up and 10 and up with over fifty games in repertoire of this parent-created company.

LeapFrog & Disney’s Tangled: A Perfect Pairing

We’ve been Tangled since Disney’s newest movie was released: three visits to the movie theater, a Rapunzel dress and coloring pages galore. Best yet, LeapFrog, our favorite educational toy company, offers various Tangled-themed products. During “learning time” each afternoon we break out the LeapFrog Tag and explore new sounds and letters with the Tag Learn to Read series. The reward is a choice of books that inspire interest in reading such as Tangled which is chosen most often by my princess-obsessed 4 year old.  Young readers can opt to play hear the story read to them, read it themselves with Tag word by word, or play games. Some pages include smile faces at the bottom of the page featuring questions kids’ can answer about the story. With comprehension and other reading skills, the games allow for fun learn; Tangled for Tag even teaches phases of the moon!

Another fun Tangled product from LeapFrog is the Explorer game. If you’re not familiar with the Leapster Explorer, check out the video on their website which shows it in action. The kids favorite learning toy, Explorer is fantastic and Disney Tangled is a perfect addition to their learning library.  The gift pack pictured includes Leapster Explorer, Tangled and a carrying case for $99.99 (sale). For children ages 4-7, with Disney Tangled they can create their own story scenes, help Flynn climb the tower by making words, play in activity modes and so much more.

If your kids are as Tangled as my own, they will enjoy both products immensely.

FurReal Friends Snuggimals: Preschooler Toy Good for Travel

Warning: The following article may include graphic descriptions.  Potty training. We tried absolutely everything to potty train our daughter.  For nine months we’ve been sitting her on the potty, reading books about the potty, utilizing sticker books, sticker charts, positive reinforcement, complacency with accidents…you name it we’ve tried it.  We had #1 licked but had more difficulty with #2.  Finally…success.  What worked for us was the time-honored yet much criticized technique commonly referred to as bribery.  Or in our case “poopy prizes.”  Immediate reinforcement with a tangible reward which began with a Strawberry Shortcake Mini Lemon Meringue and more recently FurReal Friends Snuggimal Dalmation.  A mini Furreal Friend who wags his tail and moves his head when pet by his owner, like Lemon Meringue, the new dalmation in our house is a perfect size for travel.  We’re always looking for preschooler toys to take to the sitter, and a new “pet” is a great shopping pal.  He even comes with a play mat and dog house.  Here’s a sampling of some of his friends:

Smart Tip: Purchase FurReal Snuggimals Dalmation or the other Snuggimals featured above directly through our Amazon affiliate link ($6.50-$17.99).
