My BFF Doll: Design & Buy A Girl’s Best Friend *Gift Idea*

Why We Love It

I was first introduced to My Twinn through a catalog which I tore open when it arrived. These dolls looked exactly like their owners…how cool! Shortly thereafter I was lucky enough to design a My BFF doll to be my daughter’s new best friend. While I choose similar features to her own, the doll is a companion rather than a twin. At 23 inches tall, she will be able to easily sit at the doll table for a “a spot of tea” as my five year old likes to say.  As you can see (watch the video…it’s cool!) the process allows users to customize the face, hair and clothing giving gift-givers the opportunity to create a unique, one-of-a-kind Best Friend Forever doll for the girly girls in their life. Once we receive the doll, we’ll post an update on the review. In the meantime, happy shopping!

*Update: We received the doll…she’s huge! I was not expecting her to be so big and love that she will really stand out. My daughter’s new BFF can truly travel with her and even gets buckled in the car with a seat belt. I would highly recommend as the quality of the doll is fabulous. We’ll update once more on how she hold up, but so far she’s great!*

Disney Ultimate Dream Castle: Top Toy Pick *Princess Giveaway*

Why We Love It

Before the Ultimate Dream Castle by Mattel my daughter essentially used her dollhouse as a Disney Princess Castle even though the full size princesses don’t quite fit. Now the girls have a home. From Tiana’s kitchen to Belle’s dining room, each area of the castle is themed for a specific princess. Over 50 pieces and some cool special effects such as a “magical” Lumiere who moves about the table to a magic carpet that gives Jasmine a lift offer added imaginative play. By far my daughter’s favorite room is Ariel’s bath area with bubbling sounds. Appropriately named the “Ultimate Dream Castle,” it takes a fair share of willpower not to attempt to crawl into one of the rooms and sit with Belle and the Beast at the dinner table. After all, girls are princesses at heart. Even as I chirp ”see how Tiana doesn’t rely on anyone to get what she wants” there’s a bit of me that likes being pampered. In the meantime, the Ultimate Dream Castle lets girls’ imaginations run wild.

Lite Sprites: A Sneak Peek at a Top Holiday Toy Pick *Giveaway

Every once in a while a new toy comes out that re-invents play in a unique way which actually surprises our family with its novelty. At the age when commercials are beginning to have an impact, “I want Lite Sprites from Santa” was already on the radar before we had the opportunity to test them out. Now that Lite Sprites are a hit, the extended collection is firmly on our Santa list for the holidays. Lite Sprites from WowWee include an interactive Lite Wand at the heart of a color-changing world which “captures” color to share with the sprites, playset or other wand. Pressing the wand onto either the provided color wheel or any hard colored surface “captures” a color. Then, with a press of a button that color can be shared turning Prisma or a Lite-Topia playset into that captured color. Within minutes out of the box the kids were capturing colors with the wand and turning Prisma, the leader of the Sprite Sisterhood, into one of the 50 colors in the wand library which they collected.

In addition to capturing and sharing colors, the Lite Wand can be used to cast spells such such as the “Cold Spell” making Sprite and their world change between blue and white. Unique to any other toy we’ve played with before, Lite Sprites quickly became a favorite and even traveled with us on a recent weekend vacation. Traveling well is a definite bonus for any toy since many can be an absolute nightmare in the car. Two built-in games, Color Hunt and Color Match, offer a fun way to mix up color capturing and even teach kids about color mixes. An absolute must when entering the world of Lite Sprites are playsets which interact with the Lite Wand and Sprite. The Tree of Life, a popular Sprite hangout, includes light up stairs and canopy and even includes an adorable Lite Pet.  Other Lite-Topia playset such as the Swing, Windmill and Waterfall connect to the Tree of Lite and each other through a path which create a world of Lite. Check them out for yourself:

Look for Lite Sprites in our upcoming Hot Holiday Toy guide which spotlights the top ten toys of the upcoming holiday season. Not surprisingly, they’ve also been chosen for the Time to Play 2011 Most Wanted Toy List!

All The Cool Kids Know…Rebecca Bonbon

Cool fact…the creator of Hello Kitty, Yuko Shimizu, who I had the pleasure of meeting at a Time to Play event, has gone back to the drawing board. Her new character and product line based on an adorable French bulldog named Rebecca Bonbon is sure to explode into the pre-teen and young teen market. Or in my case, the pre-school sect whose mom remember Hello Kitty as a kid. It actually kind of neat…my daughter will grow up with her own iconic character sure to someday join the Hello Kitty ranks. This bulldog from Paris who now lives in a chic Manhattan apartment is hip and happening. Featured on clothing and accessories for girly girls, Rebecca Bonbon is the next cool thing. So when you start to see her everywhere remember you heard it here first.

Cabbage Patch Kid Fashionistas: A Classic Re-Visited *Giveaway*

Meet the newest addition to the Cabbage Patch Kids family…the Fashionistas! They remind me of Audrey from Mom Generations…super hip and always in style. As an 80′s child, I can’t begin to explain my excitement when our doll arrived with a birth certificate bearing my name! In 4th grade a girl named Renee brought a Cabbage Patch doll to school and everyone, including me, wanted one more than anything else in the whole world. The only problem was the difficulty parents of Cabbage Patch crazed kids like myself had in actually obtaining them.

Because my mother is the absolute best in the world, she stood outside in line at Toys R Us to bring home Catherine, my very own brown-haired Cabbage Patch doll. Much to my delight, I was able to share a hip version with my own daughter. Updated and super cool like their 80′s proteges, the Cabbage Patch Kids Fashionistas  got game. From artsy and dressy to girly and preppy, these cutie pies sport khakis, Mohawks and berets.  And one lucky Cool Baby Kid reader will receive a personalized birth certificate and Cabbage Patch Fashionista to “match” their parent!

Cool Tip: Try a “Fun Bun” for an Easy, Chic Look

The Lauren Conrad "Fun Bun"

Cool Tip: Though it may not look 100% like Lauren Conrad’s Fun Bun, a term she coined for the looser bun style recently featured in US Weekly, it was super easy and, after a few more attempts, I will add to my hair style repoitorie for work or even out on the town. Corolle Dolls and Accessories: A Cool Baby Kid *Top Pick*

While I haven’t been to France’s Loire Valley, I hear it’s  “famous for its scenic beauty and fairytale-like castles” which is right up my fairy-tale loving daughter’s alley. The birth place of Corolle dolls sounds divine, but their creations will have to suffice for now as a trip to France isn’t on our immediate agenda…though I wish it were otherwise. Out of the box the wonderful baby smell was my first impression along with their softnessgiving them receive a high cuddly-factor.

Corolle dolls are designed to look and feel as real as possible, and my daughter loves her new baby she named “Michael” after her brother. For pretend play, cultivating imagination and just having fun, Corolle dolls and their extensive collection of accessories for girls and boys (see Paul below) are a a CBK top pick. Here are some other picks for every age:

Paul Drine-And-Wet Bath Baby

We've presonally checked out this boy-friendly doll which is a great potty training aid. Not only does he drink and wet but can even take a bath with his "mommy or daddy."

Babipouce Bilberry

Collection: Babicorolle (0M+)

Corolle even has dolls for newborns designed specifically for little ones. These adorable Elves jingle softly and have lots of built-in "handles" for tiny hands to grasp and explore. Plus, they're machine washable!

Calin Laughing Flowers

Collection: Mon Premier (18M+)

A beanie bag baby perfect for the young toddler age group, Calin collection also offers extensive accessories including the "My First Accessories Set" which bundles some of the essentials together.

Camille Ballerina

Collection: Les Cheries (4+)

Corolle's Les Cheries collection for older girls showcases 13 inch tall dolls and a fabulous array of outfits and accessories. I especially love this ballerina doll but there are plenty of cuties to choose from!
