How Alter Ego Affected My Enchilada Dinner {Giveaway}

True stoy. I was on my way back from North Carolina planning a blog conference, Reviewer’s Retreat, sitting in a Mexican restaurant at the airport when my waitress made a bit of a scene. I didn’t necessarily mind except that my food had just come out, and nothing stands in the way of me and an enchilada.

“How cool is that phone cover color?”" she asked.
“Neat, right?” I answered as the smell of Mexican wafted through the air.
I qualified, “It actually glows in the dark.”
“No WAY!” the waitress replied, leaving for the moment.
As I lifted the fork I was surprised to see her right back at the table with a friend.
“Look at that phone cover…it GLOWS in the dark!” she told her.

Alter Ego in Glow Lime (my color)

And on the conversation went with both ladies until I had supplied the brand name (M-Edge), phone cover details (Alter Ego), website (medgestore.com) and evidence that it did indeed glow as one young woman held it up into her cupped “dark-inducing” hands. I’m used to the commotion an M-Edge cover creates and am considering getting a seperate business card to hand out (after I work out a deal with the company of course) since EVERY time we go out to eat and bring the iPad for the kids someone asks where we got our SuperShell iPad cover.

I’m no marketing pro and have only been blogging since 2007, but I’m pretty sure a good strategy for M-Edge might be to give parents the Alter Ego, SuperShell and other top sellers for families (and cool kids) and ask them go out to dinner.

On a totally different and unrelated topic, I plan to get my mother an M-Edge Design Your Own e-reader cover with a picture of the grandkids in case you’re looking for a fun Mom’s Day gift.

iPad + Kids = Potential Disaster *iGuy Giveaway*

For us, “potential” was a reality when our iPad was accidentally dropped on the floor by our son.  The screen smashed as did our desire to let them use the expensive device. With so many cool and educational iPad apps, the answer to our dilemma hinged on a majorly protective iPad cover–one designed specifically for kids. However, most kids’ covers are designed for iPad 2, but luckily iGuy came into our lives one sunny day in March with the ability to protect all iPads. He arrived on our doorstep and become the new favorite guy in our house almost instantly. Mom and dad were thrilled with the foam protection, and the kids have a blast standing him up to play games and shaking his hands.

Here’s a typical conversation from one sibling to another: “Can I have iGuy please?” And the response, “Sure, here you go!” OK, OK…maybe it’s more like, “I WANT iGUY!” with the response, “No, I’m using him.” We think of  iGuy by Speck Products  an opporunity to teach lessons in sharing.

Admittedly it’s not an easy lesson as Tmple Run is hard for me to give up.

An Engaging Craft for Parent and Kid Alike *Crayola Giveway*

With the Crayola Factory in my home state, I have a personal connection to the company we all know and love for more than just crayons.  Color Wonder has been a savior in our house more than once with a five and three year old who love markers. When recently introduced to Model Magic Presto Dots as a reward for my daughter making it to the gazebo on her reward chart, I couldn’t believe we had never used them before. Recommended for ages 5 and up, Presto Dots make it easy to manipulate Crayola Model Magic with the press and pop of a dot. The Garden Kit gives you enough Model Magic for six flowers and three cute critters with a “vase” to display the finished product. After occupying my three year old with another activity, my daughter and I set out to create a fragrant flower garden–the model magic is actually scented! As a non-crafty mom who relys on construction paper, scissors and glue for most of our crafts, it was a welcome change in our routine. I love products that allow us to work together and will absolutely be purchasing additional Model Magic sets to give at Christmas.  If you’re unfamiliar with Model Magic, check out the short video below which highlights the process:

Cricket Magazine: Coupon & Subscription Giveaway

Chances are if you are a parent or grandparent you’ve heard of Cricket Magazine Group as they’ve been published children’s magazines since 1973 with their first publication of Cricket Magazine (ages 9-14).  With the opportunity to check out various titles of their 14 magazine for kids, as an educator I was impressed with the blend of education content and fun stories, songs and cartoons. Our Ladybug magazine edition (ages 3-6) included poems, multiple stories, a song with notes for those musical talented and our two favorite features–an animal mix up and pull out Chinese Dragon activity.  We also enjoyed Spider, a magazine for kids ages 6-9, which includes a “Spider’s Corner” giving readers a chance to submit their own original pieces.  Though Ladybug was geared perfectly for our age levels, nearly every child can receive their own magazine throughout the year from Cricket Magazine Group, even as young as six months old (Babybug).  Not surprisingily they’ve won just about every award out there, but for good measure Cool Baby Kid is designating this magazine series a CBK Top Pick as well.

Cool Giveaway: Enter to win a year  long subscription of your choice of Cricket Magazine Group’s 14 award winning children’s magazines with readers age ranges from 6 months to 16 years.  To enter,  visit their site and comment back here with your favorite retailer’s name.  Be sure to follow Cool Baby Kid on Twitterand Facebook and leave a seperate comment for each extra entry. Check out even more entry possibilities if you’re really determined to win.  Expires 8/10/10.

Toy Story 3 Toy Picks from Techno Source {Giveaway}

Disney Toy Story 3 Buzz Blaster Video Game

Disney Toy Story 3 Bop the Alien Video Game Zurg Attacks LCD Handheld Video Game
Retail $17.99 Retail $9.99 Retail $9.99 Retal

If Toy Story Mania has hit your house too, you  have two options. Resist the marketing maelstrom and refuse to allow your family’d budget to be depleted just because the biggest movie of the summer has your kids in a frenzy. Or dive right in, bring Toy Story toys such as the ones featured (Techno Source) one you family’s vacation giving you a few needed minutes of calm in the car.  Eat Woody Mac & Cheese and let Buzz Lightyear blast from the TV as everyone shouts, “To infinity and beyond” over and over until it becomes a mantra for summer fun.  Just a few short months ago at the Time to Play Spring Showcase the Toy Guys predicted Toy Story would take over…and it has. So you mind as well ride the wave and be sure to check out Buzz Blaster, a handheld LCD videogame that also makes Buzz sounds and reloaded with a flick of the switch. We also love Bop the Alien, also from Techno Source, which tests speed and accuracy as you “bop” the alien that lights up.  I’ll admit to taking this over from time to time to test my own skills.  Techno Source has your Toy Story toy fix with some cool picks; you know what they say…if you can’t fight them…

Cool Giveaway: Enter to win both the Buzz Blaster and Bob the Alien from Techno Source by visiting their website and commenting back here with one other toy not featured that looks pretty cool. Follow Cool Baby Kid on Twitter and Facebook for additional entries.  Please leave a seperate comment for each.
