Baby Gift Pick: Wee Drool Reversible T-bib {Coupon}

The Wee Drool eco-friendly waterproof reversible T-bib is a one of a kind product.  Who would have thought to make an everyday necessity stylish and chic? The T-bib by wee drool is the cutest handmade product around.  They provide girl designs, boy designs and gender neutral designs, to make this a hit of any baby shower. They are not only stylish, but are a great quality product. I went to an anniversary party out of town and I didn’t want to ruin my 8 month old’s daughter’s dress.  I used it every time she ate that day.

This T-bib was great protection from spills, spit up, drool, and the occasional toddler sticky hands. I was getting a ton of compliments and questions, “That is so cool, “Where did you get that?”,  “I have never seen something like that”, etc. This T-bib was really a conversation starter and the fact that it is reversible makes it even better.  My daughter’s dress was not even damp like with other cloth bibs.  Her outfit made it through an 8 hour day without any mess due to the T-bib. I will never leave home without it. The bibs are made out of a super soft Bamboo Organic Cotton Fleece. These wee drool bibs can be a great baby gift as well.   I think this product is awesome and urge you to try it as well.

Gift Idea: Gourmet Gift Baskets Brownie Sampler {Giveaway}

As a speaker at a blog conference in 2010 I received a Gourmet Gift Baskets baked goods basket and was impressed with the quality and presentation of the items. More recently a yummy Gourmet Brownie Bakery Sampler was delivered on our doorstep and unfortunately didn’t last long enough for us to share.  The Belgian Chocolate Chunk was my personal favorite!

Each night we allow the kids a dessert if they eat their meal. For a few days the brownies became our family’s dessert of choice. I originally planned to bring a few to work or give some to my mother. With summer approaching my waistline has no business eating an entire collection of Gourmet Gift Baskets browines. But it didn’t quite work out that way.

I would absolutely use Gourmet GIft Baskets for gifts in cluding their birthday baskets and for a last minute gift idea their same day gift baskets. There are plenty of ways to search for a basket including by category (check out the Italian baskets) or theme such as Barefoot Contessa. By occassions, price or recipient, the site is easy to navigate making finding the perfect easy as easy as pie.

Or browines.

Update on Our Musselman’s Tree {Coupon}

In the Fall I spent a Day at the Orchard with Knouse Foods and Musselman’s. As an ambassador, I’m excited to share the progress on the Gala apple tree we planted while there. I was a mild PA winter for pruning. Did you know the goal for pruning trees is twofold: for younger trees, it helps encourage a strong, solid framework and on mature trees, pruning helps maintain the shape and encourage fruit production? Alas… our tree is too young to prune. We were told:

With very young trees, if we started to prune we would be promoting tree/ limb growth and small trees are not always ready for that to take place. Once we get a good root system going the tree will be ready in the summer for some early limb training and the building of the scaffold system within the tree. Attached are some images you are welcome to share. Your tree and his 5 year old neighbor, as well as the surrounding orchard.

There’s so much more to that yummy Musselman’s applesauce than I could have imagined. And speaking of my daughter’s favorite snack, I was so excited to find a variety in the store last week we’ve been hoping for…lite Cinnamon! Now my three year old son is in on the action where previously he’d only eat the Totally Fruit. They say you have to introduce a new food ten times, and it’s true persistance pays off. I couldn’t be happier since it’s the perfect healthy snack for school.

May I Offer You a Spot of Tea? *Giveaway*

Tea Variety K-Cup® Sampler

I am a tea drinker. Morning…afternoon… sometimes even after dinner if I’m still hungry and want a snack alternative. So when this month’s shipment of K-Cup portion packs arrived, I was so excited to branch out a bit. Typiclly my tea drinking includes Celestial Seasonings Chai Tea and Bigelow English Breakfast Tea. When I can afford the extra calories Cafe Escapes Chai Tea Latte is my tea of choice. Being a K-Cup Ambassador has been interesting as I learn more about the companies I love such as family-owned Bigelow which began in a kitchen in 1945. To think Celestial Seasonings blended all-natural teas from herbs picked in the fields and forests of the Rocky Mountains in 1969 and more than 40 years later found it’s way into my kitchen each morning.

Though my collegues tease me about a 3rd cup every afternoon, I love post-lunch tea and was surprised to learn that the first afternoon tea was served at 4:00 pm when Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford, grew tired of the “sinking feeling” between meals. I couldn’t wait to experience afternoon tea in England and love to re-create it just about every afternoon here in Pennsylvania.

If you’re a tea drinker and Keurig fan like myself, test your tea knowledge by answer the question below to enter to win a fun tea-themed prize pack.

Cool Giveaway:

Enter to win two mugs and two boxes of tea in K-Cup® packs by answering the following question correctly and making sure to leave an extra comment for each of the additional (optinal) entries. Tea originated in China and was brought to England in the 1500s, 1600s, 1700s or 1800s? Extra entry tasks:

Check out even more entry possibilities if you’re really determined to win. Read the prize claim information; we announce winners on Prizey.net. Contest ends 3/16/12.

The Case of the Missing Kraft MilkBites: Solved

I’m going to be honest. This was not the post I intended to write. When I first received Chocolate and Strawberry Kraft MilkBite Milk & Granola bars with a gift card to purchase additional granola bars for a test test, I did just that. Picking up our two favorite varieties of bars, I planned to use my husband as the tester (since I don’t blog my kids pics) and have some fun with it. In the meantime, I told him about the new bars and how good they were. Mistake #1.

In case you’re curious, MilkBites launch February 13th when everyone will get to try these delicious (yes, delicious) new bars which have milk in them…as much calcium as an 8 oz. glass as a matter of fact not to mention 5 grams of fiber.

Back to my story. Before being able to set the stage for the big taste test, my husband tried the Chocolate MilkBite and said “Hey, those bars are good. The best I’ve had actually.”  Then, they were gone. Before I could take photos of the boxes…before we could conduct the taste test, I reached into the fridge to grab a bar for breakfast on my way to work and GONZO. (Since they actually have milk the bars must be refrigerated which make them even better.) The MilkBite thief took them to work and actually had the gall to blame me. “You’re constantly telling me I need to eat breakfast.” He chooses this moment to listen to me?

So we’re left with a stock photo of a flavor I didn’t actually try (but will) and my story of the new milk and granola bars that quickly became a household favorite for our family and likely yours too when you get your hands on them. Available soon in your local grocery store or my husband’s office.

Update: He’s at it again…

A Lucky Leaf Dinner Party: From Dinner to Dessert

Caramel Apple Cheesecake

This Fall I was lucky enough to visit the Musselman’s Orchards and learned that Knouse Foods, a grower owned cooperative, also owns a brand our family uses and loves! I’ve been using Lucky Leaf since receiving a Dump Cake recipe a few years ago since their pie fillings are at the heart of this simple go-to recipe which transforms pumpkin, apple, blueberry or cherry filling and dry cake mix into a yummy dessert. Back in 1949 Lucky Leaf and applesauce went hand in hand. These days just about every flavor filling can be found under the Lucky Leaf label, including Lite varieties as well.

Last weekend three families gathered for our monthly “Gourmet Club,” with Lucky Leaf and Halloween taking center stage. Using their apple pie filling, I made a Caramel Apple Cheesecake which was a huge hit.  With an extensive recipe section, Lucky Leaf goes beyond desserts with non-complicated creations such as the Sweet & Hot Slow Cooker Pork which I can personally vouch for…yum! Users can search the site for recipes based on product or type. As a huge fan of Sandra Lee and semi-homemade meals and dinner party ideas, the Lucky Leaf brand offers a similar style mixing great tasting dishes with the ease of semi-prepared ingredients.  Though I’m admittedly biased having connected with the great folks at Musselman’s, without a doubt I’ll be using more Lucky Leaf Premium pie fillings this Fall.

Disclaimer: Compensation for recipe ingredients were provided by Knouse Foods; all opinions are 100% my own.

Cool Tip: Throwing a virtual Lucky Leaf pie in the face of a friend is a fun way to recipe share; you can even throw a Facebook pie too. While I haven’t tried it, I threw the Like Lucky Leaf on Facebook for more tips and recipes.

*A Day at the Orchard* with Musselman’s and Knouse Foods

There are a handful of companies that, for me, stand out from the crowd. Ones to which I’m brand loyal and spotlight on Cool Baby Kid over and over again. Companies I’m proud to promote with products our family uses on a regular basis. Musselman’s is one of those brands, and not simply because they reside in my home state of PA. Starting with the fact that my picky daughter actually eats Musselman’s applesauce, there’s so much to love. I was recently lucky enough to visit this grower-owned cooperative who uses 100% American-grown apples in their products.  It’s no coincidence, however, since Musselman’s has been a part of our family long before I’ve partnered with them on Cool Baby Kid.

A “Day at the Orchard” started off with a visit to the Peach Glen Plant where we learned how they process between 9.5 and 11.5 billion bushels of apples a year. While some are processed immediately, others are stored in CA or controlled atmosphere and can actually keep at just 2% oxygen! Unlike cherries which must be processed quickly, within 72 hours, apples can store well at cool temperatures. For the consumer, this just means we should store apples in the refrigerator in the crisper drawer or just eat applesauce to get all of the same benefits!

Did You Know? Musselman’s applesauce is actually a blend of apples such as Golden Delicious, York and Rome.

When I asked about future product possibilities, some of which are on the radar and others not so much, I heard “If you can’t make a quality product, there’s no point making it.” So true. Next we visited C&G Orchard which produces 30,000 bushels of apples each year. While this seemed like an astounding number to us, the group learned other growers will go over the 250,000 mark!

Here are some other tidbits I learned at the orchard:

  • My favorite apples…Honey Crisp.
  • The life span of an apple tree is approximately 25 years.
  • Knouse, the parent company that owns Musselmans’ has 25 quality standards when classifying apples!
  • There is very little waste when processing apples. The peeling is used in juice, for instance, and little is actually tossed away.
  • Frost is the enemy to apple growers.
  • Orchardists trim trees, mow grass, tie fallen trees, calibrate sprayers, pass inspections, pick apples and work long hours for minimal profit.

During our day we also learned about Knouse Foods sustainability efforts and visited their solar field where 30% of power to the plant originates. From conserving water to working with Penn State University (my alma mater!) to look at alternate pest control methods, it’s a company committed to improvement on every level. We were even privy to some future product possibilities such to delight parents and become as big of a ht as my favorite Musselman’s Applause product, Totally Fruit, which is sweetened naturally with fruit juice and is oh so yummy.

So many of the people I encountered during our “Day at the Orchard” have been working for the company for many years.–a testament to their dedication to the brand. I couldn’t more pleased to have visited and personally experienced the quality testing (and re-testing) on a product line our family uses and loves.

Danimals Rally for Recess: $20,000 Playgrounds Up For Grabs!

Photo Credit: Danimals Facebook

As a teacher myself and mother to two young children, I can certainly attest to the importance of recess and channeling energy in positive and healthful ways. Too often programs which are non core-curriculum related are the first at risk in an era of high stakes testing in which we live. Jumping into the fray to promote physical activity for children is a company our family loves who is already a partner in our (sometimes daily) battle to live healthy.

Dannon Danimals, makers of yogurt, smoothies and other kids’ creations, have a cool contest called Rally for Recess. We tested it out by purchasing Dannon® Danimals® Smoothies which the kids took in their lunch boxes to school. The premise of the contest is simple…compete against other school for one of five $20,000 playground makeovers. Just gather and enter codes from specialty marked packages, be the top point getter in your league and win! You can check out your school’s progress in the leaderboard anytime.

As a Language Arts teacher, I especially appreciate the “Hey kids, this is advertising!” at the top of the page as we often discuss hidden messages and compensation for advertising in class. (Students are often surprised to learn they are walking advertisements with their choice of clothing. When I ask how much they are getting paid to wear a t-shirt they are usually quite confused!)

Advertising or not, our family are Dannon fans and Rally for Recess is a worthwhile investment of time for busy moms and dads. With $20,000 playground on the line, it’s game time. So rally your school to start eating some yogurt.

Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Danimals and received a gift card to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Cool Tip: Like Danimals on Facebook for cool updates and more!
