Nonnie’s Pick: Wall Bumpi Bedrail & Bed Bumper *Discount Code*

Wall Bumpi

The Wall Bumpi is a clever way to make a visit to Grandma and Grandpa’s house safer for the kids and easier for grandparents. The bedrail bumpers can are very light weight so there is no heavy lifting. They strap on to the bed securely and keep even a pretty active sleeper in the safe zone on the bed. The bumper is essentially a long wedge of foam encased in a washable cover and secured by stout washable straps. The straps go around the bed mattress the same direction as the wedge, so there is nothing to entangle the child. In our case, we strapped the bumper on one side of the bed, laid the five year old down on the inside of it, and the Grandma laid down beside her. There was no worry that the little one would roll out of bed so both slept soundy. Our three year old tumbling boy likes to sleep with an arm or leg over it, but does not go over. With the wedge on one side of the bed and grandpa on the other, both had a good night’s sleep. Of course there is the option of using both bumpers on one bed, but in our house our babies like to share our bed!

Twooth® Timer Makes Brushing Easier *Giveaway*

You likely know that experts recommend brushing your teeth for two minutes. What you may be shocked to learn is exactly how long you and your children actually brush for each day. According to The Twooth Timer Company, a recent study revels most children spend less than 35 seconds brushing. We have a 2 and 4 year old and know full well how brushing can feel like pulling teeth. We’re tried distracting (let’s do ABCs) and counting but still are not able to drag out the process for as long as expert recommend. Enter the Twooth Timer. Mom invented, simple and effective, we absolutely love the tooth-shaped timer which dings at the end of two minutes when it’s time to stop brushing.
More likely to listen to the timer than their mom, the only prompting I do now is to say “keep brushing…the tooth is still going!” And it works. Because it makes our daily lives easier and works for both out toddler and preschooler, Twooth Timer receives a Cool Baby Kid Top Pick designation. Their blog offers a ton of information on tooth decay and keeping kids’ teeth healthy which is essential for busy families looking for practical solutions. Twooth® Time is a fun and educational kit designed to help parents and their children work together to achieve good oral health by learning proper brushing & flossing techniques for children.

Crane’s Adorable Animals Humidifier Giveaway

Thus it begins. Cold and flu season has hit our house with a vengeance and the humidifier is once again out of the closet. The kids’ doctor is fairly consistent with recommendations for congestion: humidifier, bulb or blow often, and vapor rub on the chest at night. Just this morning my two year old son awoke with a stuffy nose so tonight we’ll fire up “the frog”. Crane knows humidifiers and created a cool mist humidifier line called Adorable Animals which include a pig, cow, frog, dragon, tiger and other cuties that are easier on the eye than your traditional model. Since we’re in the Northeast windows will be closed for the winter well before we’re ready for the cold weather; unfortunately, dry air season is upon us.

Crane’s adorable child-friendly cool mist ultrasonic humidifiers designs help relieve cold and flu symptoms, moisten nasal passages and soothe dry coughs so that children can breathe easier and sleep peacefully at night. And because of their animal shapes the kids love them. Remember it’s important to clean the humidifier to prevent the spread of germs; check out Crane’s FAQ page which gives a comprehensive overview of how to properly clean your humidifier. The only problem you may run into is having to purchase multiple units since siblings will surely be jealous.
Cool Giveaway: Enter to win a Frog Cool Mist Humidifier ($45.99 value) by  visiting their site and commenting back here with two other humidifier styles (animals, licensed or sports) offered by Crane. Expires 10/22/10. Valid only in the 48 contiguous states plus the District of Columbia; excludes Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

CARES by Kids Fly Safe: Plane Travel Safety Solution for Kids

CARES, the Child Aviation Restraint System by Kids Fly Safe, is the only harness type child aviation safety restraint ever certified for airplane travel by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). CARES can take the place of your car seat and it weighs only one pound. It is made out of the same industrial safe webbing as a seat belt and it is very comfortable. We can attest it is easy to use and has made travel plans much simpler. It won the Mom’s Choice Gold Award and the Good Housekeeping 2008 Good Buy Awards. CARES is approved by the FAA for all phases of airline travel-Taxi, take-off, and landing and recommended for child 22-44 lbs. who are in their own seat. The company’s motto is “Flying Safe With Kids Made Easy”. Another important feature of this seat is that it can keep your child safe during turbulence. Many parents have also reported that it was so easy to install and travel with that they will never travel with a car seat again and that their child was comfortable for the entire flight. We also had the opportunity to use the CARES system on two flight and our daughter loved being in “their big girl/boy seat” and it made us feel secure knowing she was absolutely safe to travel. Be sure to add it to your travel list for your next long vacation. Please visit their web site at www.kidsflysafe.com.

Chatting with Dr. Oz: Mammography Guidelines, Hand Sanitizer Safety, and Is H1N1 Vaccine Safe for Kids?

Today we had the opportunity to chat with Dr. Oz about keeping our families healthy this holiday season. Dr. Oz is both the star the Dr. Oz show on NBC each afternoon as well as the co-author of the You series of books.

New Mammography Guidelines

What does Dr. Oz think about the new guidelines? Tune in Monday as they offer a special look at this hot topic!

Hand Sanitizers

The biggest danger with hand sanitizers is in swallowing it. Soap and water is the best method for keeping clean, but hand sanitizers–alcohol based as opposed to anit-bacterial–are the next best option and better than coming into contact with germs.

Portion Control Tip

Watch alcohol and food intake over the holidays. Never walk around with both hand full. Be sure one is open to exchange greetings, and alternate alcohol with water which prevents overdoing it.

Flu & H1N1 Vaccine

If you feel the regular flu shot is safe then get the H1N1 shot for your children. Getting sufficient sleep and physical activity is important to boost the immune system. Obesity is immune suppressant so eating healthy. Natural options for keeping flu at bay for parents? Vitamin D and North American Ginseng for adults and broccoli for the whole family.

Staying Healthy on Airplanes

Because of air circulation the person one seat over and behind you receive the effects. One tip…put on air vent low above your head and aim it just below the chest and be sure to clean off the table in front of you with an anti-bacterial wipe. For hotels, take off the comforter since it is full of germs and either clean the remote control or put it in a plastic bag since it is full of germs.

Minimize Stress Over the Holidays

Get more sleep! Many people skip sleep at this time of year, so be sure to receive 7 to 7.5 hours each night. And a few minutes of stretching or focusing to re-set yourself each morning (yoga, mediation, exercise, etc.) is important to practice mental resilience. Exercising early in the day, though the first few minutes can be tough, is a great way to get yourself ready for the day.

Emotional Eating

Take 100 calories less per day than you would have otherwise is one simple strategy to get rid of the weight you would have otherwise gained.

My personal impression of Dr. Oz…this guy knows his stuff! Ask a question yourself or tune in to Oprah and Cool Baby Kid’s favorite doctor on call.

The Little Lasso: Prevent Tossed Bottles, Sippy Cups & Toys

After nearly two years of reviewing, we’ve seen plenty of products designed to prevent sippy and bottles from been thrown around town. From high chair to stroller or just about and high place that will create a loud noise after being hurled through the air, drinks and toys being tossed is a nuisance any mom can relate to. This week’s find, The Little Lasso, prevents dropping and tossing of sippy cups or toys with one major advantage over many others: it fits. A major drawback with similar products are their lack of versatility. But due to the Little Lasso’s design, it stays put yet also fits every bottle and cup we tested including wide neck Dr. Brown’s which are pretty thick in the middle. Choose from adorable boy, girl or neutral patterns including the Disco Dot (pictured) my 17 month old son sports currently. With the Little Lasso Baby Goga has designed a winner!

Cool Giveaway: Enter to win a Little Lasso of your choice by commenting below with your favorite pattern other than Blue Disco. Earn additional entries for becoming a Facebook Fan or following @TheLittleLasso on Twitter.

SafetyTat: The Coolest Product You Hope You’ll Never Need

I first heard about SafetyTat at the BlogHer conference this summer. Recently we had the opportunity to actually try them out; what a neat child safety product! The original SafetyTat is placed on your child’s arm like a temporary tattoo. When ordering you can customize for boy or girl with your name and mobile cell phone number. Though we hope it never happens, in reality a child wandering away from their parent in a public place can occur in seconds. Luckily we just tested the tattoo itself, which is to easy apply and removes with rubbing alchol or baby oil but is waterproof, in the safety of our home. But I can only imagine the absolute panic upon not finding my son or daughter even for a moment. I plan to use SafetyTats on our trip to the zoo in a few weeks and definitely when our family visits Disneyworld next summer. They also offer the Quick Stick Write-On! “tattoo” sticker which does not require water. Just stick it on and write your information with the pen provided. With SafetyTats for allergy, medical and special needs, as well as the all new Tat Kisses (small round hand tats with “Kisses from Mommy” or “Kisses from Daddy” messages) this is really one cool company.

Cool Giveaway: Enter to win one of three Quick Stick Write-On! SafetyTat sample packs (boy or girl) by visiting their website and commenting back here with one fact about SafetyTat not already mentioned. Ends 9/18/09. Contest Rules

Extra Entries: In addition to the standard extra entry possibilities, you can become a Facebook fan of SafetyTat for special promotions and another contest entry.

Because SafetyTat is unique, indispensable and an overall great product, they receive a Cool Baby Kid *Top Pick* designation.

Baby Banz: Aparael & Accessories for Sun Babies & Kids

How can anyone know sun protection better than an Australian designed company like Baby Banz? Admittedly in Pennsylvania it’s a problem we deal with for a few short months of the year. But I recently had the opportunity to check out the Baby Banz bucket hats and can tell they know how to protect kids from the sun’s harmful rays. With an extra wide brim and a UPF rating of 50+, my son’s camouflage hat is also adorable with an underside fabric which looks like the tropical paradise in which I wish I lived. Best yet, like my favorite baby bibs, the hats are machine washable. Protecting our kids from the sun’s harmful rays is easier with products like Baby Banz sunglasses and wrapz, but the bucket hats, are my favorite as an essential part of kids’ summer wardrobe. So as you enjoy summer picnics, pool parties and outings, this is one company definitely worth giving a second look.

Enter to win a Baby Banz bucket hat and pair of sunglasses (winner’s choice) by visiting their site and commenting back here with your favorite product/design. Click here to read the contest rules & find out how to increase your chances of winning with extra entry possibilities. Ends 7/29/09.
