Wall Bumpi

The Wall Bumpi is a clever way to make a visit to Grandma and Grandpa’s house safer for the kids and easier for grandparents. The bedrail bumpers can are very light weight so there is no heavy lifting. They strap on to the bed securely and keep even a pretty active sleeper in the safe zone on the bed. The bumper is essentially a long wedge of foam encased in a washable cover and secured by stout washable straps. The straps go around the bed mattress the same direction as the wedge, so there is nothing to entangle the child. In our case, we strapped the bumper on one side of the bed, laid the five year old down on the inside of it, and the Grandma laid down beside her. There was no worry that the little one would roll out of bed so both slept soundy. Our three year old tumbling boy likes to sleep with an arm or leg over it, but does not go over. With the wedge on one side of the bed and grandpa on the other, both had a good night’s sleep. Of course there is the option of using both bumpers on one bed, but in our house our babies like to share our bed!

Hand Sanitizers

The biggest danger with hand sanitizers is in swallowing it. Soap and water is the best method for keeping clean, but hand sanitizers–alcohol based as opposed to anit-bacterial–are the next best option and better than coming into contact with germs.

Portion Control Tip

Watch alcohol and food intake over the holidays. Never walk around with both hand full. Be sure one is open to exchange greetings, and alternate alcohol with water which prevents overdoing it.

Flu & H1N1 Vaccine

If you feel the regular flu shot is safe then get the H1N1 shot for your children. Getting sufficient sleep and physical activity is important to boost the immune system. Staying Healthy on Airplanes

Because of air circulation the person one seat over and behind you receive the effects. For hotels, take off the comforter since it is full of germs and either clean the remote control or put it in a plastic bag since it is full of germs.

Minimize Stress Over the Holidays

Get more sleep! Many people skip sleep at this time of year, so be sure to receive 7 to 7.5 hours each night. And a few minutes of stretching or focusing to re-set yourself each morning (yoga, mediation, exercise, etc.) is important to practice mental resilience. Exercising early in the day, though the first few minutes can be tough, is a great way to get yourself ready for the day.

Emotional Eating

Take 100 calories less per day than you would have otherwise is one simple strategy to get rid of the weight you would have otherwise gained.

After nearly two years of reviewing, we’ve seen plenty of products designed to prevent sippy and bottles from been thrown around town. From high chair to stroller or just about and high place that will create a loud noise after being hurled through the air, drinks and toys being tossed is a nuisance any mom can relate to. This week’s find, The Little Lasso, prevents dropping and tossing of sippy cups or toys with one major advantage over many others: it fits. A major drawback with similar products are their lack of versatility. But due to the Little Lasso’s design, it stays put yet also fits every bottle and cup we tested including wide neck Dr. Brown’s which are pretty thick in the middle. I first heard about SafetyTat at the BlogHer conference this summer. Recently we had the opportunity to actually try them out; what a neat child safety product! The original SafetyTat is placed on your child’s arm like a temporary tattoo. When ordering you can customize for boy or girl with your name and mobile cell phone number. Though we hope it never happens, in reality a child wandering away from their parent in a public place can occur in seconds. Luckily we just tested the tattoo itself, which is to easy apply and removes with rubbing alchol or baby oil but is waterproof, in the safety of our home. But I can only imagine the absolute panic upon not finding my son or daughter even for a moment. I plan to use SafetyTats on our trip to the zoo in a few weeks and definitely when our family visits Disneyworld next summer. Baby Banz: Aparael & Accessories for Sun Babies & Kids

How can anyone know sun protection better than an Australian designed company like Baby Banz? Admittedly in Pennsylvania it’s a problem we deal with for a few short months of the year. But I recently had the opportunity to check out the Baby Banz bucket hats and can tell they know how to protect kids from the sun’s harmful rays. With an extra wide brim and a UPF rating of 50+, my son’s camouflage hat is also adorable with an underside fabric which looks like the tropical paradise in which I wish I lived. Best yet, like my favorite baby bibs, the hats are machine washable. Protecting our kids from the sun’s harmful rays is easier with products like Baby Banz sunglasses and wrapz, but the bucket hats, are my favorite as an essential part of kids’ summer wardrobe. Thumbuddy to Love: End Thumbsucking Once & For All

If you have a thumb sucker at home you need to try the Thumbuddy. I thought I had tried everything to break the thumb sucking habit but then I came across the Thumbuddy. It is a very unique product that is tailored toward a girl or boy between the ages of 3 – 6. I used Ballerina Sue with my daughter. If you have a little boy try Fireman Fred. It comes with an adorable thumb puppet and story book called Thumbuddy to Love. The book is a rhyming story about Ballerina Sue who sucks her thumb. She has a big audition and she knows she cannot suck her thumb because there is too much competition. At the end of the story she gets through her audition without sucking her thumb and the audience cheers. The last page of the story says, “And now it is your turn to stop sucking your thumb. Ballerina Sue can remind you. Soon you will be done. So put her on, she is actually quite cuddly, you now have a friend who is your new Thumbuddy.”

The book also includes a sticker chart and pink star stickers. Every day your child does not suck their thumb gets a sticker. The sticker chart is a great reinforcer because my daughter loved helping put the stickers on the chart and seeing her progress. The Thumbuddy to Love story needs to be read over and over again to reinforce the concept of not sucking their thumb. It is a very unique product that needs to be tried by every parent who has a thumb sucker at home.

Read story book often and take Thumbuddy everywhere. Remind child to get involved and put stickers in the back of the book for every day they do not suck their thumb. You can then go on the website to print out a certificate of congratulations once your child accomplishes their goal.
