Thumbuddy to Love: End Thumbsucking Once & For All

If you have a thumb sucker at home you need to try the Thumbuddy. I thought I had tried everything to break the thumb sucking habit but then I came across the Thumbuddy. It is a very unique product that is tailored toward a girl or boy between the ages of 3 – 6. I used Ballerina Sue with my daughter. If you have a little boy try Fireman Fred. It comes with an adorable thumb puppet and story book called Thumbuddy to Love. The book is a rhyming story about Ballerina Sue who sucks her thumb. She has a big audition and she knows she cannot suck her thumb because there is too much competition. At the end of the story she gets through her audition without sucking her thumb and the audience cheers. The last page of the story says, “And now it is your turn to stop sucking your thumb. Ballerina Sue can remind you. Soon you will be done. So put her on, she is actually quite cuddly, you now have a friend who is your new Thumbuddy.”

The book also includes a sticker chart and pink star stickers. Every day your child does not suck their thumb gets a sticker. The sticker chart is a great reinforcer because my daughter loved helping put the stickers on the chart and seeing her progress. The Thumbuddy to Love story needs to be read over and over again to reinforce the concept of not sucking their thumb. It is a very unique product that needs to be tried by every parent who has a thumb sucker at home.

Read story book often and take Thumbuddy everywhere. Remind child to get involved and put stickers in the back of the book for every day they do not suck their thumb. You can then go on the website to print out a certificate of congratulations once your child accomplishes their goal.

Wonder Bumpers by GoMamaGo Designs: A Top Pick

New moms…moms to be…even parents of babies or young toddlers…this one’s for you. My latest find, Wonder Bumpers by GoMamaGo designs, ranks right up there with Quick Zip Crib Sheets and Grobag Room Thermometer as a must-have product for your nursery. Wonder Bumpers, a breathable crib bumper which increases airflow and reduces the risk of SIDS, completely reinvents the crib bumper eliminating the choice new parents often have between cute but potentially hazardous traditional bumpers and styles breathable options. Wonder Bumper are both stylish and safe. The vertical bumper design also makes it easier to change crib sheets, gives you a ton of options with reversible patterns, and even inhibits older babies from climbing out of the crib! A “Why didn’t I think of that” product that makes you slightly jealous the idea wasn’t yours. But kudos to the mom creators behind GoMamaGoDesgins for thinking up such a brilliant idea and offering the rest of us a solution to common crib problems. You’ll love the soft minky feel of the bumpers and can even accessorize with matching sheets, crib skirts and pillows or purchase as a collection. A Cool Baby Kid Top Pick? Absolutely!

Exergen Temporal Thermometer: Got Fever?

Maybe it’s a coincidence that I connected with the makers of the Exergen TemporalScanner about a review in the same week my toddler daughter had a febrile seizure making it imperative we treat fevers aggressively. On the other hand, maybe not. Either way I can’t help but recognize the irony in finding an easier and more accurate way to measure temperature around the same time that fevers have become a top priority in our house. A little background on the the best baby thermometer I’ve found: “The temporal artery thermometer scans the forehead area for the temporal artery and it is almost impossible to miss the artery during a scan….The gentle scan across the forehead is comfortable and not objectionable…” You can read the FAQ or my abbreviate ones below:

What is arterial temperature? It is the same temperature as the blood flowing from the heart and therefore the best determinate of body temperature.

How does it work? Just glide the thermometer across the forehead which will lock in the highest temperature it finds while beeping to alert the user it’s scanning.

Where can I get one? At retailers such as Walmart and Babies R’ Us or

Finally, A Child Car Seat to Recommend: Recaro

You asked, I listened. The reason I’ve never reviewed a car seat before is that I only share the things I love and was not in love with either of the car seats we’ve used…until now. In case you haven’t heard of Recaro child safety seats, the maker of our new favorite car seat, a little history. In business for over 100 years, they introduced the first sport seat becoming a well-recognized name in racing. Also responsible for the first vehicle seat with an integrated seatbelt, Recaro is the exclusive supplier for top models of Porsche, Ferrari, and Lamborghini among others. They don’t take child safety lightly. Their motto, “Don’t get cute, get Recaro” tells the story of its integration of safety, ergonomics, design comfort and quality. Mom reality? I have another super safe “top of the line” car seat which I’ve never reviewed because I just don’t think it’s easy to get my daughter in and out of. Her Recaro Signo, a 5-70 lb. convertible seat, is not only safe but looks good and is easy to maneuver which is important when it’s below 20 degrees outside (as it is today in the Northeast,) and I want to quickly get her strapped into the seat. So I finally have a car seat to recommend. Enjoy!

Cool Giveaway: How can I brag about our new car seat without giving you an opportunity to win one for yourself? Here’s the task. To enter to win either the Vivo or Vivo Lite high back booster seat in your choice of color, visit Recaro’s website and leave a comment back here about how they stike you as different from your average car seat company. For this contest, there’s only way to receive an extra entry–blog about the giveaway with a link to this post. Be sure to leave an extra comment with a link to your site. Contest ended. Congratulations Amanda!
