Scout by Bungalow Diaper Bag & Totes *Giveaway*

My biggest pet peeve with diaper bags is how messy they quickly became which is why the Pocket Rocket by Scout would have been ideal. Though I use the wipable bag for toting around groceries and even once on a picnic with the kids, I could see it’s appeal as a diaper bag which easily attaches to the back of a stroller. With three pockets on each outside to quickly grab essentials such as wipes or toys, it’s easy access and stylish designs make it a winner for new parents.

The whimsical Bungalow by Scout website entices users to click around, and here are some of my favorite finds:

If you’re browsing around yourself, by sure to check out the most original “about” page ever and the Deals Under $30 section with plenty of picks priced just right.

Cool New App Alert: MealSnap

This sounded too good to be true, and while the jury is still our on its accuracy (though my bowl of cereal was oatmeal but only overestimated by 40 calories) MealSnap is a pretty cool app. Simply take a picture of your meal and the app does the rest, namely by counting calories for your meal. They claim it to be “Pure Magic” and the true is I have no idea how they even began to accomplish such a feat. Either way, it’s a nice looking app, fully social media integrated and worth more testing. I’ll have to eat more meals today to rate this cool new find. Anything for Cool Baby Kid readers!

New Vera Bradley Perfect for Mother’s Day

New! Shopper Tote

Retail Price: $8

Sophie Bags in Four All New Colors

Retail Price: $42

Quick Draw Bag in Watercolor

Retail Price: $68

Vera Bradley released all new colors and styles, and I am absolutely in love with the Sophie Watercolor bag. The perfect size for a quick outing, it has plenty of pockets (six in all) and at a retail price of just $42 also makes a great gift for a friend. Speaking of gifts, with Mother’s Day just around the corner, there’s no need to search high and low for the perfect present. Just visit Vera Bradley’s What’s New or Gift Ideas and you’re good to go. The Gift Ideas link allows you to search by price starting at gifts under $30 such as the Hard Sunglass Case ($22) perfect for the upcoming season. Or if you’re like me, Mother’s Day is also a good time to offer hints to hubby in the form of an email “Check out this Vera Bradley Laptop Case! Wouldn’t that be a great gift for Mother’s Day?”  In my experience more subtle hints do not translate to the gift I was hinting for hence the rather explicit “hint” suggestion.

And if you’re one of those Vera diehards, like my friend Debby, and must have the newest items, check out the Rolling Luggage in Boysenberry and prepare to be awed. Not quite sure what the Vera hubbub is all about? Read a previous post about how I become a convert.

Boar’s Head: A Not-So-Scientific Taste Test

After reviewing products and companies for over 3 years, I can name brands without thinking that I love and buy exclusively that do not depend on sales or coupons such as Tide or Pampers. Typically good deals are my favorite finds, but at times a product is so outstanding or a company and its service so superior that paying extra is worth the price. Add Boar’s Head to the list of Cool Baby Kid Top Picks. Here’s why:

  • It tastes better than other delicatessen products. Period.
  • Their meats and cheeses contain no fillers, gluten, artificial colors, flavors or trans fat; they use pure beef, pork and poultry, and real spices.
  • Boar’s Head has been family owned for over 100 years. I like that.
  • They support the American Diabetes Association offering over 30 heart-healthy deli meats certified by the American Heart Association and are also proud supporters of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Armed with Craked Pepper Mill Turkey (pictured), EverRoast Oven Roasted Chicken Breast, and Sharp Cheddar Cheese, I conducted a very scientific taste test. I tasted Boar’s Head and the regular old turkey breast and cheese my mom purchased and even gave samples to my family. The result? We all liked Boar’s Head better. Well…maybe not 100% scientific, but not bad for an English teacher. I’ll leave experiments to Experimental Mommy and focus on sharing cool picks and favorite finds, like Boar’s Head.

Cool Tip: Check out their recipes section such as 100 Calorie Recipes or Holiday Brunch categories.  Also be sure to follow on Twitter and fan on Facebook to participate in programs such as Boar’s Head Brings Hope, donating $1 (up to $25,000) for every “like”  to help families struggling as a result of the oil spill.

AboutOne Family Management {Giveaway}

Every once in a while a resource comes along that changes your life. Although this sounds dramatic, for someone who values organization AboutOne family management website is a lifesaver. First introduced to the site and its creator Joanne Lang through a moms’ group in my homestate of Pennsylvania, it took just a quick tour to realize the impact it would have on how I organized things around the house. A website accessible anywhere which houses information from your children’s artwork to education records and household receipts, the AboutOne system makes it easy to stay on top of things. To get a better understanding of how the site works, take the product tour for an overview or watch the short video below. Some of the things you can organize with AboutOne include:

  • School pictures, memories, documents, and artwork for each child in your family searchable by school year.
  • Household receipts, documents, phone numbers for quick answers to questions like, “Who is our plumber and what did we pay him last time to fix the garbage disposal?”
  • Store “family” and “relationship” information which cross-reference users in the site for easy reference.
  • Health information such as blood type, conditions, medications and more for emergencies.

You can even  send a quick memory such as something cute your child said right from your smart phone or scanner into your AboutOne email inbox. Before using the site I stored kids’ artwork in the basement in a file cabinet, important documents and receipts in my desk file cabinet, milestones and memories on my Google calendar, cute sayings and other snippets on the notepad on my iPhone…and the list goes one. Having everything in one place with the ability to ditch the paperwork is my favorite feature of this revolutionary family management website.

As a teacher I immediately saw a use for the classroom and indeed other educators use AboutOne to store and share students’ school information. Try it free for 15 days and when you love it, subscribe for $5/month or $30/year. I also love AboutOne’s commitment to serving military families and their partnership with Operation Shower, a non-profit that coordinates baby showers for pregnant or expecting military families in a deployment or high stress situation. And in case you’re concerned about security, don’t be. The AboutOne team uses the site for their own families and are serious about keeping your information secure; they use bank-level security and their advisory board includes a CISSP approved member. I predict in a few years so many people will know about and utilize AboutOne that it will be a household name for busy moms and dads looking to get it together.
