Sweet Wee Bairn: Editor’s Pick for Top Nursing Cover

Sweet Wee Bairn Anyone who has ever tried to nurse in public knows how uncomfortable it can be. As a new mom I tried all of the tricks to breastfeeding discreetly from using a blanket, to using my sling, and finally I just ended up hiding in bathrooms every time my little one was hungry. There didn’t seem to be another solution short of baring it all. Not that I’m embarrassed of breastfeeding in public but I’d rather have my friend’s attention on what I’m saying rather then on my breast. So I can’t tell you how excited I was to finally get my new nursing cover by Sweet Wee Bairn.

First of all I LOVED the look of the Olive Lotus Cover. There was nothing babyish about it. This was something that I could see myself wearing while out with my friends. Not only is the fabric stylish but the design is perfect for making you and your baby comfortable. The cover has flexible boning across the top so unlike covering up with a blanket or burp cloth, as I unsuccessfully tried to do, the fabric forms a slight gap so your bay’s face isn’t covered and you can feel at ease knowing your baby is comfortable. What makes this nursing cover stand out from the crowd, besides the great price, is that the strap is adjustable and it’s also detachable and moveable so you can ensure the perfect fit. This means that it won’t slide so you can spend more time concentrating on something other than keeping everything in place. Also, with the addition of a detachable and moveable strap, once you’re done with it you can clip it anywhere which means one less thing to dig through your diaper bag to find.

This is the type of gift every mom or even mom to be to be would love to receive and you can match it up with other products that are available on the Sweet Wee Bairn website such as a diaper clutch or pacifier clip. Trust me when I tell you that this is one cool baby product!

One Huge Nursing Cover Sale: Save on Slurp & Burp

One of my favorite nursing cover companies is having a blowout sale I had to pass along! Read the complete review on the Slurp & Burp breastfeeding cover, a nursing accessory that covers mom but not her baby. Using a Slurp & Burp allows mom to maintain her modesty without drawing attention. “Slurp & Burp is offering 50% off everything in stock while supplies last by entering code “thanks” at checkout. In addition, shipping costs will be refunded if a customer posts/blogs about the sale and sends me the link. We are offering this sale in an effort to reduce inventory as we simply cannot afford to test all of our fabrics under the upcoming CPSIA requirements. We will test and continue to manufacture (USA as always) our most popular colors. We are also coming out with a new line this spring- also made in the USA.”

Cool Tip: Make your purchase “designer” by adding the matching pouch.

Someone Spoil Me & Other Gift Tips

I recently received an email which asked, “There are so many cute products on your sites plus the gift guide, but what I really want to know is where are you shopping this holiday?” So I’ve decided to take a review break today and answer that very excellent question. My real-time holiday gift buying tips:

I just purchased two presents the other day from a social gifting site called Someone Spoil Me. I found it while scouring the current edition of US Weekly looking for cool baby and kid picks. Love it! Not only is the site well designed and easy to navigate, the finds are spectacular…really unique. You can search by category or occassion and even add your own personal wishlist. A sucker for personalization, I found and purchased this cashmere scarf. Best of all, Someone Spoil Me is running the best promotion ever, 20% off the entire site by entering the code “STYLEWATCH” (Exp. 12/21). No wonder People magazine picked up on this deal.

There are so many other great gift guides out there too. Some I particularly like are Cookie magazine’s guide; they are also giving away all of the mom gifts with one grand prize winner to receive nearly $4,000 in goodies! Also, Chick Shopper Chic, From Dates to Diapers and An Ordinary Life teamed up for a 2008 Christmas Gift Guide for kids and babies. Nice…

What else? Not Sox, leg warmers manufactured by Baby Legs, is runnng a promotion on eBay that is unbeatable: $5.00 a pair or 6 for only $25.00. I bought a 6-pack beacuse you can never have too many Baby Legs or in this case Not Sox. Hurry though…expires 12/9. Just this morning I bought something (can’t say exactly beacuse the gift recepient may be reading this) at an Etsy shop I found called Simply U Botique. Definately worth checking out.

Rounding out my purchases, I have the following already wrapped and ready to go: Crayola Tadoodles, a slew of Begin Smart books, Bella Tunno bibs for the stocking, and a golf cart for both kids (bought on eBay for around $200). For others I’ve bought Goosie Cards, a Boon Squirt Spoon, and a Bebe au Lait nursing cover amoung other things.

Finally, I really did list many of my favorites and great gifts ideas on the Baby Kid Blogs Holiday Edition Gift Guide. Between Someone Spoil Me and Amazon, I may not even have to brave the crowds this year! Happy shopping.

Cool Tip: Share one of your own. What was your best gift find so far this year?

Preparing for Baby: Baby Lists by Elaine Farber

Not to be confused with Ferber–a moment of quiet reverence for the man who helped both of my children to sleep through the nightElaine Farber’s book, Baby Lists, is another must-have in the “preparing for baby” book department. Actually, I think both Ferber and Farber’s books will be the ones I’ll give to expecting friends or family members from now on. Baby Lists is the only “what to do and what to get” resource you’ll need to prepare for the new addition. From buying and packing a diaper bag to travelling accessories and safety products, it’s not only comprehensive but easy to read. Forgoing lengthy chapters and long articles, the book is presented in short paragraphs and lists as a reference for when you need it. Highlight your favorites and take it to register; Baby Lists does everything but put the kids to bed for you!

Cool Giveaway: Win a copy of Baby Lists by Elaine Farber for yourself or as a gift for an expecting mom! Nurse in Public Privately

Slurp & Burp Nursing Wrap

I had a hard time with the title because I didn’t know if I should call the Slurp & Burp a wrap, cover or something else because it really is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. It is the most discreet way I’ve found to nurse baby in public. Because the Slurp & Burp is worn like a sash and the baby is not completely covered, it looks like you are simply holding your baby. But the innovative design allows the material to part with just enough room to feed without being exposed. Choose from a variety of stylish materials like “Bubble Gum” pictured. Slurp and Burp makes it easy to nurse in private even in public. Another great mom invention!

Cool Tip: Receive a special 50% discount for 2 days only (6/18-6/20) on the “Naturally Organic” Slurp & Burp.

Cool Giveaway: Two Cool Baby Kid readers will receive a Slurp & Burp of their choice. To enter, just leave a comment on this post answering the question, “Where would be a good place to use the Slurp & Burp?” An email address is needed in order to contact the winner. Chic Nursing Covers for Breastfeeding Moms

When my daughter was 6 weeks old we took her to Disneyworld; my cousin Nancy, who breastfed four girls, laughed when I ran off to hide and feed the baby, telling me I’d have to learn to nurse in public. Thanks for the lesson! And thanks to Bebe Au Lait who makes the nursing in public chic. Baby #2 not only will be eating in public but will be doing it in style. The covers are designed so you can look down and see baby without having to smother him (or her) or expose yourself while the cover stays in place. It makes a perfect gift for a breastfeeding mom, especially since they also are sold under the more cheeky name “Hooter Hiders“. This is one cool product!

Cool Pick: Get Chocolat, my favorite pattern; it’s great for boy or girl.

Advice from Baby to Child, Sleeping to Feeding…

American Academy of Pediatrics: Birth to Age 5

My sister-in-law, who has three children, gave me this book. This is the same person who, when I told her I couldn’t take the constant night wakenings at five months old, laughed as I said, “Yes, I’ve let her cry for a good 2-3 minutes!” She put me on the right path then and was spot-on recommending this book, my go-to guide for everything as it is published by the American Academy of Pediatrics and offers very sound advice. Love it!

Cool Pick: I know the web is a great resource, but you won’t regret buying this book.

Little Show Offs: Tees for Tot

When celebrities love something, Cool Baby Kid has to check it out. After browsing through Little Show Offs collection of fun tees for everyone from “brand new” baby to mom & dad, you’ll see why we love this site too. They make perfect gifts that let baby speak for himself, whether it’s to proclaim “Eat Sleep Poo Cry” or “Democrat in Training.” Their signature “Brand New” pictured on the left works well for baby boy or girl. This is one cool line I love!

Cool Pick: “Into Everything” for toddler says it all.
