Are you watching THE summer TV show?

As a child of the 80′s, there was no doubt when Dallas premiered on TNT June 13th I would be watching with bells and whistles. To my delight, the theme song was the same and some of the original cast including Larry Hagman as ever-popular J.R. Ewing. Before I had a chance to view the pilot episode a friend texted me to exclaim, “You have to watch Dallas asap…it’s the best show on TV!” With a set-up like that, I was expecting a lot and not disappointed. From J.R.’s scheming (I forgot what a conniving, back-stabber her was) to hunky new cast mates @TheBobbyEwing and @TheChrisEwing, Dallas proved to be entertaining even if cliffhangers promise to leave audiences wanting each week.

If it’s been a while and you need a refresher, meet the family in this video:

Adorable New Disney Junior Show “Doc McStuffins”

Last evening we watched an episode Disney Junior’s “Doc McStuffins,” an animated series aimed at kids age 2-7.  Premiering Friday, March 23rd on the  Disney Junior block on Disney Channel (10:00-11:00 a.m., ET/PT) and the new 24-hour Disney Junior channel (4:00-5:00 p.m., ET/PT).  With a daughter terrified of doctors, the show’s premise–a 6 year old girl “Doc” who takes care of her stuffed animals and toys that come to life–is refreshing. After just one episode the kids are already asking to “see it again” and the doctor kit came out almost immediately. I’m hoping Comcast addes the Disney Junior channel to our station lineup so we can enjoy this delightful new series later this month.

The “Doc” is in! Here are some helpful, healthy tips for little ones from Sandra de Castro Buffington.

  • Make sure to get enough rest. Doc is always on hand to heal stuffed animals and broken toys out of her backyard playhouse clinic, and she and her friends often learn important health lessons, too. For example, when Ricardo the racecar loses a race for the first time, Doc diagnoses him with “No-Vroom-Vroom-atosis” – Ricardo’s tired and needs his batteries recharged! This is also true for young viewers who need to recharge their own batteries by taking a nap between playtime.
  • Don’t forget to wash your hands. After Doc, her brother Donny and his toy monster Glo-Bo have fun with finger painting, a rash of blue spots breaks out and the clinic is filled with toys covered with mysterious blue dots! Doc realizes all of the spotted toys came in contact with Glo-Bo, who didn‘t wash his hands after finger painting! Doc reminds the gang at the clinic – and at home – of the importance of washing your hands to avoid spreading germs. It’s important to drink plenty of water. Sometimes kids and adults alike forget that they need to drink lots of water to stay hydrated – especially when it’s hot outside. When Donny casts aside his favorite toy fire engine Lenny because he’s not spouting water out of his fire hose anymore, Doc and her toys come to the rescue and discover that Lenny is out of water. Once she fills him back up, he’s as good as new and all of the toys learn a lesson about dehydration.
  • Big kids have to be careful when playing with little kids. Doc and Donny’s new toy brontosaurus, Bronty, demonstrates why it’s important for big kids to be careful when playing with little kids. As a dinosaur, Bronty is much bigger than the other toys, and sometimes he accidentally hurts those he’s playing with. When all the other toys come down with Bronto Boo-Boos (cured through cuddles and kisses), Bronty learns it’s important to play gently with toys that are smaller than he is.
  • Sometimes you have to take it easy after you get hurt. As much as kids want to get up and start playing again right away after they get hurt, Doc helps kids understand that sometimes you need to rest a little while to make sure you’re all better, like when Donny’s friend Luca’s toy helicopter Rescue Ronda loses one of her rotors. After gluing it back on, Doc explains to Ronda that she needs to rest and give the glue time to dry, but when Ronda takes off to the sky shortly after, her rotor falls off again and Doc finally convinces her that sometimes when you get hurt, you have to take it easy for a while in order to heal.

Q&A: What is Your #1 Favorite TV Show

In our Q&A series I’m happy to answer reader questions (submit via Facebook or email) and find our more about CBK readers. Today question was tough for me since I’m a loyal Survivor fan and have been since season one. But when it comes to the show I can’t wait for the next week to arrive, the nod goes to Bravo’s Real Housewives. With Beverly Hills wrapping up I’m excited for a new season with the original ladies of the OC. The Real Housewives of Orange County premieres Tuesday, February 7th and 9:00 p.m.  Not surprisingly, season six of “The Real Housewives of Orange County” was the highest rated season and season seven with new cast member and former actress Heather Dubrow, Gretchen’s new role as a Pussycat Doll in Vegas and Vicki’s introduction of a new beau. Come to think of it, I may need to have an OC viewing party even if it is a Tuesday. My housewife friends rarely hit the town mid-week with work and school looming (5 a.m. comes early) but we may have to make an exception. New Voice of Dora & Premier Week Lineup

New Voice of Dora: 11 year old Fátima Ptacek

1/30 “Dora and Diego Save Atlantis”

Dora, Diego, Boots and Unicornio leave the Enchanted Forest to end an ancient feud between the unicorns and dragons and save the lost continent of Atlantis. Meanwhile, a greedy owl (voiced by Jason Alexander) is given the opportunity to act as king and watch over the forest.

1/31 “The Big Red Chicken’s Magic Wand”

The Big Red Chicken is doing magic tricks and for his first trick, he turns Boots into a chicken. When he tries to turn him back into a monkey, he lets out a big sneeze that propels the magic wand into Magic Land. Dora and friends set off on a magic-filled journey in order to get the wand fixed so Boots can become a monkey again.

2/1  “Swiper’s Favorite Things”

Swiper is packing all of his favorite things for a sleepover at his Grandma’s House — his pajama trunk, his favorite puppy book, and his very special funny bunny. Just as he is about to leave, a big wind gust comes in and blows everything away! Dora and Swiper journey to Crocodile Lake, through the Jumbled Trees, and race to Strawberry Hill to get Swiper’s favorite things back.

2/1 “A Ribbon For Pinto” (Season 7 Premiere)

Pinto is really excited about the Big Horse Show and he’d like to win his very first blue prize ribbon. Dora, Boots, and Pinto are taking a train to the show, but the train breaks down and they worry they won’t be able to make it!

2/2 “Dora’s Knighthood Adventure”

Boots loves to hear stories about knights who go on heroic adventures and Don Quixote (Andy Garcia) tells Dora and Boots that anyone can be a knight as long as they help others. Boots would love to be a knight and so would his friends Rocinante the horse and Dapple the donkey, but they need someone to rescue. Dora takes out her spotting scope and they discover a princess calling out for help from the Royal Garden. Dora, Boots, Rocinante and Dapple set out through the Puppet Stage, past Tico’s Carousel to get to the Royal Garden and save the princess.

Breaking News: Disney Junior to Debut 24 Hour Channel

On March 23rd an all new Disney Junior channel will debut with the premiere of “Doc McStuffins” and a 24 hour lineup of Disney fun. Unfortunately Comcast is not carrying the channel in my area just yet, but hopefully it will be requested enough to change their minds. Find out if it will be available in your area. In addition to new shows past favorites including “Higglytown Heroes” and “JoJo’s Circus” will make an appearance. While the Disney Junior block on Disney Channel will continue to carry favorites such as “Jake and the Never Land Pirates,” this all new station will feature shows exclusively for the 2-7 age group.
