SESAME STREET: Ready, Set, Grover – Wii Game

Any time you can supply a new video game to a preschool child, they seem to go crazy with enthusiasm.  It’s great when you can capitalize on this enthusiasm to help reinforce healthy habits. This game’s message promotes Healthy Habits in the form of physical activity, good nutrition, hygiene, and rest and relaxation.  Ready, Set Grover!  uses several Sesame Street characters such as Grover, Elmo and Abby Cadabby to guide your preschooler through various activities.  I loved the sheer number of games and activities included as part of the game.  It seemed as though we went from one activity to another without duplicating an activity.  The game provides a short audio visual tutorial before each activity to direct your preschooler how to complete the task.  My son took the directions and knew what he had to do to complete the various tasks.  He has played a few Wii games before and really loved Ready, Set Grover!

The Wii game comes with a Grover Remote cover which is super cute and easier to hold.   The cover also hides unnecessary buttons and therefore aids your preschooler in touching the correct buttons, reducing wasted time and parent intervention.   Another great feature is  the “Parents Page” where parents can check progress on activities and customize specific games for their kids based on their preferences or set limits for play.  This new Sesame Street game has a great message and is really fun for your toddler, so if you allow your toddler or preschooler to play Wii, this is worth a look.

Nonnie’s Pick: Wall Bumpi Bedrail & Bed Bumper *Discount Code*

Wall Bumpi

The Wall Bumpi is a clever way to make a visit to Grandma and Grandpa’s house safer for the kids and easier for grandparents. The bedrail bumpers can are very light weight so there is no heavy lifting. They strap on to the bed securely and keep even a pretty active sleeper in the safe zone on the bed. The bumper is essentially a long wedge of foam encased in a washable cover and secured by stout washable straps. The straps go around the bed mattress the same direction as the wedge, so there is nothing to entangle the child. In our case, we strapped the bumper on one side of the bed, laid the five year old down on the inside of it, and the Grandma laid down beside her. There was no worry that the little one would roll out of bed so both slept soundy. Our three year old tumbling boy likes to sleep with an arm or leg over it, but does not go over. With the wedge on one side of the bed and grandpa on the other, both had a good night’s sleep. Of course there is the option of using both bumpers on one bed, but in our house our babies like to share our bed!

Safety 1st Rumi™ Air Harnessed Booster Car Seat

The Booster seat of the future has arrived. The Rumi™ Air Harnessed Booster Car Seat by Safety 1st is AWESOME.  The FlexTech™ Energy Management System technology actually absorbs forces in a car accident instead of those forces hitting your child.  I love how secure my child’s head is from back to sides compared to all other booster seats on the market.

With that being said, I am a first time parent and my husband and I installed the Rumi which comes in the box with the Latch and 5 Point Harness ready to install.  We took out the 5-point system to get it ready for the booster mode.  The directions were step by step and incredibly easy to follow.  My husband and I didn’t even argue throughout the 10 minute process.  However, when we put the Booster in, we decided we were not ready to make the transition to a Booster seat.  My son makes the 40 lb limit but has some inches to go for the height requirement.

The great thing about the Rumi car seat is that it has a higher weight range of 65 lbs to keep your child in the internal harness system longer. We were able to re-thread the harness system which again step by step directions with illustrations and color coding enabled us to have a peaceful re-installment.  It was really that easy. Also, because the Safety 1st Rumi Booster car seat has 2 modes of use for forward facing from 22-65 lbs and belt positioning from 40-100 lbs and 57 inches in height, it can protect your child longer than most other car seats. The easy-adjustable headrest properly aligns Air Protect with the child’s head, where it’s needed most.

My son also loves the cup holder and little storage tray. He calls his new car seat his rocket ship and absolutely loves it! We now look at the Booster seat we have for our other car and both agree it’s getting returned to purchase another Rumi.  The price is higher, but the fact that this Rumi Booster seat is the safest booster seat out there give me peace of mind that my child is safe and there is not a price tag on that kind of assurance.

Fisher Price Hero World Rescue Heroes *Giveaway*

While I don’t necessarily mind my 3 year old wearing princess dresses with his older sister an example of all things girlie, I also think some “boy toys” would be great too. In the toy world, toddler/young preschool boys are the most neglected group in my opinion. With plenty to play with 4+  it’s great to see a line specifically for the younger set. The Hero World™ Rescue Heroes® from Fisher Price fills this gap with Perry Trooper, Billy Blazes™, and Captain Cuffs action figures.

Though potty training is 85% complete, we used the action figures as “potty prizes” which worked as planned. With a low price point ($9.99) they also make great gift ideas too. Now while our daughter invents fantasy world with “her people” or mini-princesses, the little guy has his own “people” now too. I’ve used them as a springboard to talk about the role each plays in our society, since unlike many boys his age, our 3 year old is not yet obsessed with firefighters and the like. Although thanks to Hero World™ Rescue Heroes® …he’s getting there.

Little Loo Potty Training Aid *Giveaway*

Little Looster is another “why didn’t I think of that product?” that makes me both thrilled to own but frustrated no one invented sooner. The Little Looster is a step stool that encompasses the toilet at just the right height allowing little ones to climb right up and sit without being intrusive enough to have to move out of the way for adults.Part potty training aid and part convenience for kids even after they’re trained, Little Looster is in a class all by itself. My daughter always had a fear of falling into the toliet which Little Looster eliminates due to it’s design…no more dangling legs…no more hands griping their toilet. As more comfortable and sanitary solution for kids, I predict Little Looster will become a necessity and household name with familiesthat have young children. I also love that a mom from Oregon invented the idea and uses Oregon-based companies to design, manufacture and pack the product and even to design their webpage and graphics.

Cool Tip: Use code CBK7 for $7.00 off The Little Looster good through 12/10/10.

Preparing for Disney: Stroller Choices & CSN Stores

In less than two weeks our family will head to sunny Florida for a long awaited Disneyworld vacation. As any Disney-goer can attest, preparing for travel to visit Mickey and the princesses requires a well thought out plan of action.  While details on parades and parks are still being worked out thanks to A Guide to Walt Disney World with Preschoolers, other decisions such as dinner reservations and stroller choices were made months ago. Considering our stroller choices, we though about renting at the park to minimize luggage since our toddler and preschooler are able to walk on their own accord. Checking in and moving around the airport without the option to “buckle up” negated this particular choice. Taking the big stroller we already owned seemed too heavy and bulky so we decided to buy a new lightweight double stroller. The problem? Not one met all of my requirements. Side by side, reclinable seats, canopies, storage space, low price and lightweight: needless to say there were limited options unless I shopped online where shipping charges negate good deals.  If you find yourself in a similar bind, no need to shop around.

Strollers.com offers free shipping on orders over $69 which gives consumers every alternative under the sun, even if you’re looking for a side by side double stroller with all of the bells and whistles for a low price.  A division of CSN Stores, you can also shop for car seats, baby gear, nursery items, baby furniture and with the same quick delivery, 30 day return policy and 100% satisfaction guarantee offered at Strollers.com.  We’re thrilled with the Dream our Me double stroller and are looking forward to driving it around Disney whether it carries the kids or our belongings, or if we’re lucky, both.

Cool Code: Take advantage of Strollers.com car seat sale and save 25% on select car seats by entering promo code ‘CarSeat25′ at checkout including  Britax, Chicco, EvenFlo, Eddie Bauer Baby and other brands.
