Safety 1st Rumi™ Air Harnessed Booster Car Seat

The Booster seat of the future has arrived. The Rumi™ Air Harnessed Booster Car Seat by Safety 1st is AWESOME.  The FlexTech™ Energy Management System technology actually absorbs forces in a car accident instead of those forces hitting your child.  I love how secure my child’s head is from back to sides compared to all other booster seats on the market.

With that being said, I am a first time parent and my husband and I installed the Rumi which comes in the box with the Latch and 5 Point Harness ready to install.  We took out the 5-point system to get it ready for the booster mode.  The directions were step by step and incredibly easy to follow.  My husband and I didn’t even argue throughout the 10 minute process.  However, when we put the Booster in, we decided we were not ready to make the transition to a Booster seat.  My son makes the 40 lb limit but has some inches to go for the height requirement.

The great thing about the Rumi car seat is that it has a higher weight range of 65 lbs to keep your child in the internal harness system longer. We were able to re-thread the harness system which again step by step directions with illustrations and color coding enabled us to have a peaceful re-installment.  It was really that easy. Also, because the Safety 1st Rumi Booster car seat has 2 modes of use for forward facing from 22-65 lbs and belt positioning from 40-100 lbs and 57 inches in height, it can protect your child longer than most other car seats. The easy-adjustable headrest properly aligns Air Protect with the child’s head, where it’s needed most.

My son also loves the cup holder and little storage tray. He calls his new car seat his rocket ship and absolutely loves it! We now look at the Booster seat we have for our other car and both agree it’s getting returned to purchase another Rumi.  The price is higher, but the fact that this Rumi Booster seat is the safest booster seat out there give me peace of mind that my child is safe and there is not a price tag on that kind of assurance.

Scout by Bungalow Diaper Bag & Totes *Giveaway*

My biggest pet peeve with diaper bags is how messy they quickly became which is why the Pocket Rocket by Scout would have been ideal. Though I use the wipable bag for toting around groceries and even once on a picnic with the kids, I could see it’s appeal as a diaper bag which easily attaches to the back of a stroller. With three pockets on each outside to quickly grab essentials such as wipes or toys, it’s easy access and stylish designs make it a winner for new parents.

The whimsical Bungalow by Scout website entices users to click around, and here are some of my favorite finds:

Packit Personal Cooler Stays Cool *Giveaway*

As a parent you’ve likely used carry coolers dozens of times. For baby bottles, lugging snacks, school lunches for the kids or your own lunch for work. Packit solves a simple problem by eliminating the need for an ice pack that inevitably melts. With built-in cooling for up to 10 hours, the personal cooler stays cool…just unfold and go. I used it recently on a day trip to keep apples and juice boxes cool, and Packit delivered. I plan to snag it for myself for work since I tend to eat healthier when packing my lunch, but it comes in handy for the kids as well. Eight cool styles with another eight on their way shortly, including the Polka Dot pattern pictured, make it a stylish way to pack and go. Invented by two single moms on a mission, Packit is simple but effective which we know Cool Baby Kid readers love.

Re-Discovering Hershey Part II: A Chocolate Experience

In the midst of last minute holiday preparations, a group of bloggers including myself were fortunate enough to vist the Sweetest Place on Earth recently. Re-Discovering Hershey, Part I focused on our visit to the Milton Hershey School where each visitor was awed by the dedication of so many people helping children in need. Everyone who purchases a Hershey product is also helping since proceeds benefit the school that otherwise does not accept private donations while remaining 100% free for kids in financial and social need.

When we weren’t exchanging cookies with amazing youngsters, the group baked up a storm with resident Hershey expert baker Linda Stahl including some of the the cookies pictured above. At home both before and after the event I tried numerous Hershey cookie recipes including Toffee Bits Cookies, Peppermint Pattie Cookies, festive KISSES Candy Cane Blossoms and Cocoa Crinkle Cookies. This is pretty good for someone who typically bakes Peanut Butter Blossoms and Chocolate Chips and leaves the rest of the baking to her mother. You can get recipes for these and other holiday Hershey cookies at HersheysCookies.com which also includes Linda Stahl’s holiday entertaining and baking blog for festive and easy holiday tips. And even though our Hershey Cookie Exchange Giveaway has ended, remember to enter at HersheyKitchens.com for your chance to win two $10,000 Kitch Makeovers…one for you and one for a friend!

Since most of my previous trips to Hershey focused on Hersheypark and Chocolate World, I was especially pleased to learn more about Hershey at The Hershey Story. A museum experience which also inclded a special chocolate-making session at the Chocolate Lab and a Chocolate Tasting of cocoa bean flavors from around the world, even a Hershey enthusiast like myself had much to learn. Here are some fun facts I picked up:

  • Though cocoa beans, sugar & milk recipe 4 chocolate was no secret, Milton H. roasted beans at higher temps and mixed sugar & milk before condensing to create a unique flavor
  • Milton Hershey built a community, not just a factory and encouraged people to buy their homes to give them a stake in nurturing their town
  • Harry Reese tried fishing, farming, and other failed ventures until he found success with a idea that combined peanut butter and chocolate after working at the Hershey dairy. Reese’s were born and later acquired in 1963.
  • Cocoa beans, only after being fermended, begin to taste more like chocolate as we know it. Tempering…heat and cooling chocolate that makes it more like the chocolate we know and love. Otherwise the consistency we be more like fudge.

A discussion of our visit would not be complete without mentioning the superior accommodations at Hotel Hershey. Though I’ve stayed at the Hershey Lodge for educational conferences in the past, this was my first visit to the hotel conceived by Milton Hershey himself.

Originally Mr. and Mrs. Hershey dreamed of recreating a famous Egyptian resort, Cairo’s Heliopolis Hotel. The Heliopolis Palace Hotel was an elaborate, red-tiled, “Citadel of the Sun,” with royal suites, marble stairways, gardens, fountains, and vistaed approaches. Mr. Hershey went so far as to purchase the architectural plans but balked at the estimated $5 million construction costs. Planning for the hotel brought Kitty Hershey a great deal of pleasure. Today it’s easy to understand why Travel + Leisure readers rated The Hotel Hershey one of the Top 50 Hotels for Families in the U.S. and Canada in the 2009 World’s Best Awards survey. With phenomenal service, decadent restaurants including the Circular Dining Room and Hervest which we experienced firsthand, and of course the famed Spa at the Hotel Hershey, the accommodations at Hotel Hershey are every bit a part of the Hershey story.  Immediately upon entering The Woodside Cottages which include 4 or 6 bedroom layouts with a great room in the center complete with a dining room table and fireplace perfect for a large family, girls getaway or even wedding parties. My husband doesn’t know yet, but next year for our 15 year anniversary I would love to travel with our families to renew our vows and the Cottages at Hotel Hershey would be a perfect spot, even in January. And since the Spa was easily the best I’ve every visited as it’s hard to beat spa treatments such as a Cocoa Massage or Chocolate Fondue Wrap, I’m also thinking a girls weekend may be in order as well.

By visiting HersheyPA.com you can discover or re-discover Hershey and experience the Sweetest Place on Earth for yourself. And whether your’re looking for yummy cookie recipes for the holidays or for a place to visit with family or friends, I can personally and wholeheartedly recommend Hershey for both.

Mom-Invented Padalily {Giveaway}

Mom invented, like so many of the best products for babies and kids, Padalily, an infant car seat handle cushion, is a simple yet effective solution to painful inner elbow syndrome (PIES) new moms and dads experience. What is PIES? When you have a new baby and carry him or her in the infant carrier, all is well until you need to use that hand. Moving the carrier onto your inner elbow, PIES is the trade-off for having your hands free.

All silliness aside, Padalily is a fashionable and practical with cool patterns such as popular Kashmir Karat we tested out. Watch a short video on their site to see how Padalily works and read about Lily, the beautiful, talented mom who is the brainchild behind the brand. Meeno Babies Car & Stroller Seat Liner

When my daughter was born in July I remember panicking about how hot she looked in the car seat. Then again, I was (am still am) panicked about a lot of things when it comes to the kids. Keeping them comfortable in the car seat and stroller, with the added benefit of having a washable liner in case things get messy, Meeno Babies, like so many inventive baby products, was created by parents looking to solve a common problem. A universal, easy to use liner which comes in three different shades, Meeno Babies uses a state of the art, 3-ply poly-mesh material that promotes airflow between your child’s body and their seat.

We tried out the car seat version in Spring Green which installed easily. A car seat or stroller liner is one of those little necessities that quickly reveal their importance when a messy situation arises. Meeno Babies offers an added benefit of keeping babies and kids up to 4 year old comfortable and cool as well. Machine washable, the liner easily uninstalls for a quick wash which we also tested out–good as new! No more panicked parents…at least when it comes to kids’ comfort while travelling.

Tinker Bell Little Learner Laptop Review

In a few days our 2010 Holiday Gift guide will include our top picks from the Time to Play Holiday Showcase and favorite product spotlights from throughout the year. One standout, Oregon Scientific, included a table filled with electronic goodies and kids laptops, from Barbie to Batman. But since our daughter has been flying around the house since the release of the Great Fairy Rescue,  the Tinker Bell products caught my eye. With the opportunity to try out the TinkerBell Little Learner Laptop, I can verify it will be included in the 3+ section of our Gift Guide. A perfect size for travel with a handle making it super portable, surprisingly the strap and flower lock seems to be our daughter’s (age 4) favorite feature. The keyboard, arranged from A to Z to help with alphabet familiarity, along with an LCD screen, gives little learners a jumpstart on memory and counting including eight total games. A timely learning toy capitalizing on the current Tinker Bell craze, priced under $20, will also make our upcoming “Birthday Gifts Under $20″ gift guide due to it’s appeal to preschoolers and portability.

Cool Tip: Purchase  the TinkerBell Little Learner Laptop directly from Oregon Scientific.
